assuming you know your way around a toolbox of basic tools, as any self respecting man should- don't take it to the dealer. you can save yourself hundreds by doing it yourself. search the forum or ask a question if you are unsure of something. keep receipts of parts you buy though, just in case a warranty issue comes up.

At least for my 2005 C230 A and B Service alternates at 13,000 miles. Please check your service manual to be sure for your model.

These types of questions really can typically be found in your owner's manual. As a car enthusiast (I presume we all are amateur car enthusiasts since we're on this website) you should read the manual.
