question about child-seat/safety and C230 coupe...

Hi all,
NO first of i dont have a kid.............well not one of my own or one i'm aware of anyway BUT I do have a 5 yrs old niece and 3 month old nephew which both require child seats. They are moving to town next month and I will be doing ALOT more activities with them (yeah kinda wish they made a 2.3L C230k sedan) so I will be strapping a child seat in. I know I can just use the rears but sometime I want to use the front seat for convenience and stuff. I read the manual (briefly a while back) that an MB approved child seat will deactivate the airbag. Do I have to get an official MB child seat (which i'm sure cost $$$$) or can any/most child seat will work to deactivate the front pass. airbag. Are there any other safety things I need to know about when there is a child/baby passenger? Thanks.

My understanding was that you have to use a "Babysmart" M-B seat, or at least in the late 90s-2000 models you did. Check the specs on MBUSA, I think it specifies on there.

I bought one of them babysmart front boosters. I have 3 kids, 2 in back and the third (in the trunk?). So I had to.

It wasn't too much - relatively speaking, like $135 from local dealer. Perhaps you could get it cheaper from the likes of discount mailorder dealers.

It is a great seat as kid seats go - you just set it down, seat the kid and strap through seat and over kid. No attaching the seat first.

BUT - 3 months and 5 years are vastly different body sizes so you can't use one seat for both. The 3month old is stuck in the back no matter what.

MB Child seat

This is what you need to get from MB. This is mine soon to be installed on my W211. It allows you to install the seat either front or back. The seat has an integrated transponder that disconnect all airbags that surrounds the seat.

this is NOT necessarily what you need. The picture is of a child seat - for infant through 30lbs (going from memory on that high number). For bigger kids, it is a booster that looks like a bottom cushion with a really skinny back.
