Wind Deflector Repair w/Pics

My sun roof jammed last year and I put it fixing it for 12 months fearing the worst. My Nova consumed most of my time, so working on the Benz was out. I'm getting ready to sell it and I have to fix the sun roof. As I got into it, I realized it wasn't the sun roof. It would only open a couple of inches but I could see a spring and a piece of plastic laying on the track. As I tried to crank it open manually I saw a part of the wind deflector jaming into the roof. It was a simple repair. First remove the front two T-20 screws on both sides of the sun roof.

Once those screws are removed, you can lift the sun roof up and manually crank it open. This it is a simple job or removing one more T-20 screw and one retainer pin and the bracket comes out. There is a left and right bracket and the roof will work with only one. I think the wind would blow it down easily if there was only one though. It is a spring loaded bracket that allows the wind deflector to flex.

I wish I would have looked at it sooner.

Excellent post.

Is that Orion Blue on the Nova? It's beautiful. Did you get the ZZ4 running yet?!

Not too many musclecar guys here, but I’m one of ‘em.

The Nova is deep blue pearl metalic. It is a VW R32 color. The ZZ4 was running before I disassembled car. I"m hoping to have it on the road by the end of September. I have wiring, fuel pump, brakes and AC to complete

Sometimes I get a head of my typing. It is a simple repair. On a scale of 1 to 10, it is a 1 at best. The only tools required are a T-20 screw driver, small flat tip screwdriver, needle nose pliers and the the sun roof manual crank.

1. Gain access to the manual crank as instructed in the owners manual. The small flat tip screw driver is needed to remove the front dome light cover. There is a knotch on the front of the lens to fit the screw driver in and pop out the lens.

1a. Remove the light and homelink assembly by sliding the two tabs to the front of the car and lowering the assembly. There is no need to disconnect any wires.

2. Crank sun roof open and inch or two to gain access to the four t-20 screws (two left and two right) holding the front of the glass to the tracks.

3. Remove the four screws.

4. Push up on the front of the sun roof and manually crank it open. The sun roof will pivot on the back two screws. Note: It doesn't push up very far, but it will ease the jammed bracket.

5. Remove the t-20 screw and pin holding the bracket in. The small flat tip screw driver is used to remove the clip and the pliers are used to remove the pin.

Reinstall in reverse order.

Note: The bracket costs $77 from the stealer and the left and right sides are unique.

The L side is 203-780-01-75. Hopefully this is enough to help you locate the R side if you need it.
