European Delivery
Did you guys know that you actually save money doing the european delivery. My uncle just told me about it. Basically, the money you save taking euro delivery, will just about cover a 2 week european vacation. Wish i would have known, i had 3 weeks off for christmas. That would have been perfect, and i probably would have my car right know. instead of drooling at all of yours.

you have to drive it in europe for about 2 weeks, so that it get declassified as a new car. Then when you go to import it into the US the tariffs are lower.

Out Of Control!!
How does that work?
The only discount, if you go through MB, is 2 free nights in a hotel and a free tour.
Are you talking about actually buying it there, and doing all of the paperwork yourself? I would think that would be a nightmare. Plus, you'd have to buy the US version over there, and I don't know if you could even do that. Maybe your uncle was talking about BMW's program, that actually has real savings like that?

Years ago (1983) my grandparents euro-delivered a MB wagon. It pretty much paid for their trip. Funny thing is that euro-delivery wasn't as smooth as it is now. They had to go down to the shipping docks to pick up their car.
As for now, it'd be fun as hell, but I wouldn't do it to save money.

i looked into it and i felt that it sort of broke even. that is, if you were going to vacation in europe and you wanted a car, it was conveniently designed.
the only negative was that the car would be in the break-in period and how am i supposed to test the autobahn??

young, about the break-in, two things. First, my parents picked up an '84 Volvo in Europe and put over 2000 miles on it, so you would quickly be out of break-in. Second, break-in I think is not revving over 4000 rpm, and you should easily be able to do 110+ @ 4000 in 6th. We're going to Germany in June and will likely do Euro Delivery (through Mercedes). BTW, I noticed the destination charge of $645 is waived in Euro Delivery.
