Special Order Personalization Charge
What is this and when do I have to pay it?
I just received a e-mail quote from carsdirect and it was a line item. Haven't made phone contact yet.
Every time I configure the car I want using both cars direct and MB websites, this is not included.

Could be that you've requested a combination of options that is not normally offered. MB will, for instance, give you an unusual paint/interior combination only if you pay an additional charge above and beyond the options price. Can't think of any other possibilities.

They charge this on certain colors like Citron Green or certain color combos like Magna Red with Oyster interior. You certainly won't make that up in resale value but if you lease who cares. If you don't want to pay this select a color combo that's standard.

Spoke to carsdirect.com rep yesterday. No Special Order charge for the car I'm after.
Evidently they include it as a line item in e-mail quotes, so if it is required by either the final configuration and/or an equivalent car located already here, the buyer won't be surprised.
BTW, my quote was exactly what I calculated on their website; $2300 under MSRP and $576 under invoice.
