B-Service Notice...Sudden Change in 2 weeks?????

I recently took my car in for an in-between oil change. My maintenance display still showed 5300 miles until B-Service. Fast forward two weeks and one thousand miles, and now I'm getting an alert that it's due in 30 days.

I just got back from my first road trip in the car - Phoenix to Las Vegas and back. Car drove like a dream.

Anyways...any ideas why this triggered?

I've always driven a 50/50 ratio of city/freeway. This came a day after I did a three day all highway road trip. I only drive a total of 600 miles.

The service intervals are based either on mileage or time. The intervals for my car, which should be the same for you, are 13K mile or 1 year. If it has been close to a year (less than 30 days till year is up) then it would go to time rather than mileage. From your post it looks like the service counter was not reset. So from what you wrote this seems like this is probably what is happening.

By the way why do an in between oil change? Just change it as the service counter says. Now it looks like you have wasted an oil change.

It reviewed you recent mileage history and calculated that if you continued driving at the same pace it would reach that point.

I agree with dnlow. And, you would have found the same information by searching the forums first. Ask the dealer if they reset the FSS. If not, have them reset it and then from now on just follow the FSS message.

Sorry, but I'm NOT going 13K on any set of oil in Phoenix, or any urban desert climate. I appreciate your opinion though.

Actually when I bought the car, the indicator was reset, as I had 13K to go for B service. I did my oil change at 6700 miles (as my manual and service book suggests for this area and driving climate), and a couple hundred from there...B service indicator comes up...I've only had the car for around five months.

Actually I didn't see anything definitive that would satisfy me, and even so...I really don't mind if someone doesn't search. If someone wants to ask a question, I'm more than happy to offer an answer - it's important to them, and they asked it since they wanted to hear from someone.

Apparently it's the service clock

I talked to my SA on Friday. He checked the records on the car, and he thinks that when the A service was done on my car, even though the mileage clock was reset, the actual service clock was not. He said it was probably still set to keep track of things based off of days, and when I come in they can reset it and then change it to track miles, since I drive 20,000 miles a year on average.

I'm also getting my satellite radio module replaced, since that's been on the fritz and it's been getting worse every week.

I have a strange low whining noise coming from the car too - off and on, more and more, and it's not from any of the wheel wells. Wonder if something is up in the transmission or drivetrain.

I beleive that your problem might be that the dealer didn't reset the service light after performing the service. It's a simple mistake that can be fixed easily. Since you're not about to drive 13k intervals before each service(and I don't blame you), you're going to have to keep good records of services with milleage so you know when you really need that B-service versus just an A-service oil change.

Part of the reason prices of cars are so high is because owners give dealers all the power instead of selling direct to consumer.
