How do put on jack stands?

I would like to know how to hold the car up on jack stands. Where do I place them? Seems like the underpanel covers even the frame where one would normally put them. The only part sticking out is the wierdly shaped jack receptor that wont accomodate any kind of stand.

Do not jack up the car using the underpanel covers as leverage. They will break.

I know someone that sells these cool rubber adapters. It's called a jack pad tool. Basically, they snap into the chassis jacking point.
They avoid damaging the side skirts or undercarriage covers when using a floor jack.
They are chassis specific, although the one I have for the W203 will work with the W203, W209, W211, and W219.

In theory you could just use a block of wood, but you have to center it perfectly into the jacking point, and there's still that chance that it damages your sideskirt. If you have AMG sideskirts or Sport Model 2005+, then these are really designed to keep those safe because you can order them with an additional spacer.

They cost a pretty penny, but I think they're worth it. PM me for price and ordering info.

here are some pics of what I'm talking about:

This is the W203 jack pad tool:

Those little notches on the side (2 on each side) basically snap the tool right into the jacking point rubber piece
(part # 203 997 01 86)
The spacer and bolts are for W203 AMG models or 2005+ Sport models.

this is the tool just sitting on the jack:

here, the tool is snapped into the jacking point:

and then as the jack is lifted, you can see where the tool does its job:

There are special versions of this tool also available for the W204 C-Class, R171 SLK,
as well as the W221 S-Class, the W216 CL, W251 R-Class, W164 ML, and the X164 GL class.

Do you mean jack stands or axle stands? i.e. the fixed steel stands that you drop the car onto so you can get both sides up when working on the vehicle?

Whatever you want to call them I believe he wants to lift the entire car using 4 stands, all wheels off the ground. While this floor jack tool is a great product it is only for lifting one wheel at a time. I would also like to lift the entire car and put it on stands. Sprissa, is there a similar lift tool that would provide stability in a jack stand (not floor jack)? I am thinking of lifting the entire front or rear of the car from a cross member and then using jack stands at both wheels. Anyone out there that has done this? Do you have any knowledge to share? I must admit that this car really doesn't lend itself to the home mechanic.

Thanks, Greg

Greg, you are right. The above tools are perfect for a floor jack.
It the jack stands you are using have a flat adapter, then these can be used at the jacking point.
Before I had these, I would jack up the car at the jacking point, and then place standard jack stands just behind the brake rotors and coilovers on the cross member.
Making sure the car was stable, I would then go and lift the other side and do the same.

Unfortunately, these pictures don't show the exact point where I placed the jack stand, but that's how I did it.

Thanks for the input Saprissa . I must admit that as I have just purchased the car I did very little except look under there and start scratching my head. Your approace sounds perfect. By the way do you eat off of that floor/jack/suspension/etc. Wow does that look good. My car has about 11,000 miles on it now (bought a CPO loaner with 6800 miles on it) and will be driven in the winter. I have to tell you I am a bit jealous.

Take care, Greg

Those jack pad tools seem like a great idea. I wonder if they'll be good for rieger sideskirts.

BUT, I'm not able to see the pics Saprissa posted?

to see pics, unfortunately, because of some glitch that MBWorld has never been able to fix, you have to log on to all 3 versions of MBWorld:

https://mbworld.org/forums
https://mbworld.org/forums
https://mbworld.org/

just type in the 3 versions at the front of the address bar on your screen right now, and after it opens up hit the "BACK" button, and do the other one, and then hit the "BACK" button again. And then reload, and they should all show up.

for years, I've told the moderators many times about this, but they are adamant that it's all the same server, and the pictures should show up no matter which you log in to, but time and time again, people keep saying they can't see the pics. So go figure

the extension spacer works well for AMG sideskirts, and basically provides more clearance than just the jack pad tool by itself. It should clear most aftermarket sideskirts too. If not, you'd have to rig a larger spacer with longer bolts (and I'm probably talking millimeters at this point) to ensure proper clearance.

that's exactly where I got mine from. A friend of mine in the MBCA turned me on to these a while back.
Thanks. I had lost the link to that site, but I had the pictures saved on my desktop at home.
