cupholder replacement

has anyone replaced their cupholder? The cheap plastic chrome ring on mine (05) is flaking off. now I am out of warranty.

Do the new ones have a metal ring instead of plastic?

Wondering how expensive the part is and how intensive the replacement is. Thx.

You know what I would do, honestly, because I am cheap, I would probably run down to the local hardware store and pick up a shaker can of "Chrome" paint (Kyrlon or whatever) and just take the ring out (however you do that, I'm not sure because I don't have that style cup holder) and paint it with the "Chrome" paint. Good as new!

same thing happened to me
i did it yesterday... gently pull up the finisher where the gear knob is (start from the ashtray area)
press the cupholder and extend out (as if you have 2 drinks)
there is only ony torx screw holding it which is in the "lower cup holder"

part is about $55

Had mine replaced under warranty for the same reason. Too bad yours is out of warranty. I'd buy the new part, don't think painting it will turn out quite the same.

I wonder if it is easy to swap to the new cup holder from the older w203 model cup holder

What does the new cup holder look like? Are referring to the one in the new C class model? Hopefully, the new one is not plastic chrome.

I would just leave it alone but it looks really cheap.
