Question Antenna for the command system in a C240…

Listen up chaps and charming ladies...

When I did buy my C240 (2002), I was not interested in the command system; cost was an issue and practicality. Never the less, I think the antenna on the rear glass just completes the vehicle look. I was wondering if I could buy the shell of the antenna and attach it myself. Would that be possible? Glued on or would it have to be factory installed? is it screwed on? In addition, would it be possible to get a rear shade installed…

Thanks a million
Cheers

do you want the antenna to function or just for the look ?

that antenna is not rqd for COMAND by the way.....you can use a simple flat GPS antenna under the front dash.

antenna

You are in luck...the standard antenna just sticks to the glass and is inexpensive...$32 for the base, don't know how much the mast is but it's a minor part/piece. It comes with the adhesive already there, just pull off a piece of plastic covering and stick it on, then screw in the mast.

The antenna that is stuck on the window and is vissible is the cellphone antenna...the GPS antenna is stuck on the inside of the glass under the black decall on top of the window...it is a stealth antenna.

greetingz,

Your help is greatly appreciated! So if I do read you right, I have to go in to the dealer ask him to order a base unit to stick to the glass and the top part too, for a 2002 C240, right?

is I needed it too really work, how does it attach to the unit in that case? just on a footnote...

"is I needed it too really work, how does it attach to the unit in that case? just on a footnote" It does not attach in any physical way. It literally sticks to the outside of the rear window and that is all. I broke mine off by accident and was surprised at all there was to the "antenna". I believe Teleaid will work without it but it extends the range of reception. There are antennas within the rear window and I think it collects the signal and passes it through the glass to one of those.

Come on fellows,

You do have to admit that this super fine vehicle is complemented to a certain degree with the antenna; like most German vehicles. Never the less, I had a good chuckle, when I heard that owners De-badged their rear! Has that something to do with the fact they are ashamed about the fact that they are driving a C240 or something to that affect?

I have to be fare! I reviewed a few pictures of cars, which have no badges, and it does give a clean look at the back! Never the less it also might provide me an ability to snarl at BMW 330 drivers (chuckle), since I do have sports rims…

I don’t know if one can attach the BMW antenna or if it has too be screwed? Well, I am ordering mine today!

Hey guys!Old thread but need some advice.2 days ago i broke my gps antenna while brushing heavy snow off the top of my rear window on my 2001 c240.The piece was hanging by the electrical wire and the wire finally broke off yesterday. The screw-on mast is still screwed on to the broken piece of plastic. Is this entire piece replaceable or do i have to get the rear glass altogether? Thanks in advance for your help.

There is no physical wiring/connection from that 'antenna' to the inside of the car. I knocked mine off as well and noticed no difference in operation. But the cost to replace was only $32 and it just sticks to the glass like a band aid.
