Angry exterior bulb burnouts

How many W203 owners have faced bulb burnouts prematurely?

I've replaced at least five exterior bulbs in the last 3 months: both lowbeams, both side markers, one brakelamp.

I have pretty much replaced all major bulbs at all four corners of the car since we bought it in Jan 2001.

Is this a common problem? Is it a problem with MB's bulbs?

Have you tried switching to other bulbs (I'm not talking about aftermarket headlights... superwhites, etc) and seen the problem resolved?

Little things like these are getting annoying.

TIA

Yup, my stock bulbs (lowbeams, side markers, brakelights) will burn out for no reason.

My left brake light burned out about 4 months ago, which surprised me. Sounds like I should count my blessings though, huh?

bulb burnouts...

Yep, had the problems. There is an engineering change to stop the front turn signals from burning out. Also, I was experiencing error messages and short bulb life in my left rear tail & stop light and they replaced the whole assembly to fix it. Had a circuit board replaced to fix a trunk light as well. Replaced the stop light bulb in the right rear after about 6 months and it's been OK for the past 1 1/2 yr. MB has a reputation for short bulb life. The new E's offer LED for stop lights in the sport package...like that's a sport option???...wish they would go to more LEDs like some other manufacturers have. LEDs don't burn out and are quicker reacting but require more bulbs to create enough light so I believe are more expensive.
