Automatic Climate Control Question

Does anyone notice that the warm (red) button to adjust the temp. barely lights up at night? It is nowhere near as bright as the cool (blue) button.
Can this be fixed without replacing the entire unit?

I suppose you could take the unit apart to see if you can install a slightly higher wattage bulb, or perhaps an LED. I find both the red and blue are very dim on my unit, but I guess that is normal. The only thing I don't like about this unit is the slow temp change I like the feature I've seen in both the Lexus and Infiniti automatic cliamte controls where you can press a button to make the passenger temp match the driver temp with a single touch. You can also make the driver's temp control adjust both driver's and passenger's temp's simulataneously!

...My red and blue buttons light to about the same level. All is covered by your warranty...

Do you know that you can press both the red and the blue at the same time and it will center on 72. This helps a lot if you are making a dramatic temp change.

I got a question for you, or anyone else who has switched to the digital unit. In my coupe, in the winter, it seems like I have to set the temp even lower than in the summer just to keep it from getting too hot. I usually have it set at like 66-68, hard to tell exactly where it is set.

But I was in a C320 loaner the last two days, and with it set at 70, it was pretty comfortable. So, do you find the digital unit to be more accurate as to if it really feels the same temp as it is displaying? If I put mine at 70-72 in the middle, it gets pretty hot, but that temp shouldn't feel that hot.

Yes. I set mine around 66 in the winter and 70-something in the summer. In the winter I don't like how almost all the heat comes from the floor. I end up with hot feet and frozen hands.

C240 my brother had was way too hot...same thing set it to something like 66-68 when it was cold outside.

agree 100% !!! I don't know why they react so slow...the non-digital ones react faster..but aren't as accurate IMO.

I've had several cars with digital climate control, and they all seem to work that way. I have to set the temps lower in the winter, and higher in the summer.

Dunno why.

I've always thought it was related to extreme ambient temperature swings. Similar thing in houses and buildings I think. Like, in winter, 72 degrees is nice -- but in summer, that's pretty cold. In moderate temps, I don't need to adjust the climate control temp at all, but in very cold or very hot, I usually adjust only 1 degree or so. Also, I think various climate control systems calibrate differently depending on outside temp. They may take more extreme measures when the outside temp is very hot or very cold.

BTW, my heated seats in my '99 Passat adjusted depending on outside temp. They had 5 settings, but I could definitely feel the difference on a particular setting if the temp dropped below certain threshholds.

I remember from several years ago that the W202 C230 would be noticeably colder with the standard climate control on A/C than the automatic digital system. You could put the digital one on LO and the other one on the coldest setting with the fan speed all the way up and it would get much colder in the standard one.
