Sunroof - Express Close Issue
When I go to "Express Close" the sunroof, it goes about 1/4 of the way, and then re-opens again. Is it sticking on something? There doesn't seem to be anything visible in the tracks way.
Please advise if you can.
Thanks

It's one of two problems:
1) need to re-synch your sunroof (search the W203 forum, or RTFM)
2) bad sunroof control module (in which case it needs to be replaced)
Check 1) first. If that doesn't work, then bend over and grab your ankles - it's gonna hurt . . . .

I think the benz dealership uses grease(they used it the 1st time I complained about it). Dunno what the part number is. Nowadays I just use my bicycle chain lube, the type that is safe for metal, plastics, etc. I like the bike chain lube better because it is a dry lube, does not collect dirt.

I lubed it with WD-40 and it worked for two passes and now it's sticking again. It gets right to about 3 inches from closing, and then it stops and re-opens.

Mine does this as well. You can hold the button and it will close, but the 'express close' as you called it doesn't work for me either (closes 3/4 then opens back up).
It also does the same thing when i resynced the windows (holding lock down for like 10 seconds while pointing your key to the infrared port on your driver door handle).
It just hasn't really bothered me enough yet to drive across town to the dealer.

i have had this problem with my sunroof for a long time and the dealer cant fix it. what i do is just hold the close switch until it closes completely and release after so. at first i was furious, but now it's just like operating my honda, same thing.
goodluck, and let us know if you found a different solution

1999 CLK320 (sold), 2007 C230 SS (gone), 2000 Grand Marquis, 2011 CR-Z, stay tuned...
The dealer should always be able to fix it, that's weird. I had the problem, but they lubed it and it works now as well. Who knows.

My car did this and no amount of lubrication or re-synch operations would fix it. The dealer ultimately adjusted something using SDS. It has worked fine since. This was October 2008.

WD-40 has chemical cleaners in it that will weaken and destroy rubber,... like those rubber seals around your sunroof,.. that keeps the water out.

Use SILICONE lubricant spray!

BTW, use Silicone lubricant spray on all your rubber seals to keep them flexible.

Also, WD-40 realistically is not a lubricant (by my standards). It's more of a cleaner. It evaporates within a few weeks as a lubricant.
Also, yes, the stop sensor (I forget the actual name) can be "re-learned" using SDS.

Well I can't roll my eyes back far enough in my head to express myself properly on this.. but.. my car's sunroof starting the bouncing back ***** again this morning after working fine for a year following its SDS adjustment.
WTFever. I'll just hold the button.

I literally got my car back today for the same issue, and they replaced some part called the sunroof "roller blind" which basically is the track the sunroof rides on, the mounts had snapped so there was excess pressure pushing on it while closing. It was like 15 bux in parts, from what I was told. I also had "sunshade shims" replaced, because the sunshade was free to fly open and closed with acceleration and braking, not that its related. But bring it in and have it fixed, If its not under warranty, let me know and ill get the part numbers off the service ticket and take pics of it.

No I know first hand why people I know hate sunroofs. Happening to me too. I tried the resync and no luck. I'll contact the dealer soon. Its also grinding a little bit so may need lube.

Mine was doing this and I sprayed the tracks with some lube that my garage door repair man gave me. He said this lube doesn't attract dust and lasts a long time. Don't know what it's called though, it's in a can on my garage shelf now.
My sunroof closes with one touch again.

had the same issue... keep in mind theres a pinch sensor up there as well. I had to clear out a tiny tiny branch and now it works completely fine!
