Newb saying hello
I was going to post this in the referenced thread, but decided not to hijack it. Just a little self-intro for anyone bored, lol.
Sounds like you and I are in the same boat. I just bought my '07 C230 sport with 25k on the clock last week. I've been browsing the forums here for a little while and figured I'd might as well post up and introduce myself.

Right now, I'm fighting any and all urges to modify her. I have driven modified cars for most of my driving "career" (I guess you'd call it) and its nice to have something that I dont have to worry about reliability issues due to modifications, or speedbumps slowly eating the underside because of being dropped.
I do like the thread on adding the AUX cable to the stock radio though. I plan on pulling the door sil and seeing if I have the white connector first though.
BTW, a little background on me if anyone is interested. I'm 22 and just graduated UMD with a mechanical engineering degree. I have a 1985 Monte Carlo SS that I bought stock and modded the crap out of... 5.7L V8 crate motor, 6 speed 'vette trans, 8.5" 4.10:1 limited slip rear end from a buick gran national (with a bunch of aftermarket parts stuffed in it). I like to autocross it and just have fun with that car. Its got some minor suspension work, with plenty more to come. I also have 13" C5 brakes that I just need to get calipers for and then I can put that together.

Thats the old paint job. The new one is darker, 3 stage... Gloss black under a dark candy violet, under 3 feet or so of clear coat
. Paint is the one thing I didnt do, so I can praise that and my buddy (who just happens to be a professional painter) did one hell of a job IMO. I'll have some new pics once I get the summer wheels back on (rolling on IROC's right now)
www.sickspeedmonte.com if anyone wants to see more.
The Benz is replacing this:

I spent more time under that truck than in it... and then started making enough money to buy the Benz. I'm still undecided on whether or not to keep it... I guess it depends on insurance.
Anyways... good info here! I'm glad to have run across this site.
I apologize for the crappy first thread topic, but.....I have an 07 MB C230 Sport w/ 17k miles, and well, need to start fixing the girl up! This was a huge bonus for me, I was coming from a toyota echo ! Talk about a golf cart on the road!!

So, with that said, I reviewed the stickied brake thread, and couldn't really get a hold of what the consensus was...it seems friction master was the top choice of pad replacement?
So, what should replace my front/rear pads with? I'm a So-Cal resident for reference to part stores.
Again, while this is my first post, I have been a silent browser for a while now! Anyways, I plan to be more active here, often looking at the DIY threads for cool add on's! Or at least, have them done...

Thanks again,
Kristy

Welcome!
Nice Monte!
I replaced my white 2002 S10 Extreme with the 2005 c230K as well.
I got rid of it because i was never driving it.
I'll give you a month or 2 at the most, then you'll be modding. I told myself i wasn't gonna do anything to this car and i failed. :-p

Thanks man!
I keep telling myself that the money would be better spent on the Monte (I can get another 100-150 hp while losing 75 lb with about $1500 into an aluminum cylinder head/cam swap) and not have to worry about voiding warranties or getting a computer tuned. We'll see what happens though... I just have to learn not to get jealous when I see modifications on this board that I really like, lol.

Ah, so nice to have a newbie take the time to introduce themselves. Welcome.
Interesting choice of vehicles to mod...
putting lots of vette parts on a Monte Carlo? Hmmm.....not my style, but I bets it's fast.
Most people just start asking questions without ever introducing themselves.
Glad to see you've been doing some reading instead of just posting questions already answered 10000 times.
Welcome!
As far as mods to the 2005 engine, there's not a lot you can do.
Certainly you wouldn't have to feel guilty about doing things like wheels, or OEM mods like Xenon's and such.
On the 2002 the engine lended itself much more to modding then in the years after.

As for modding the SS, I've always loved the style of the car and figured I could make it move well enough to match. It's getting there, I've actually been able to beat some modded WRX's at the autocrosses, and my setup is nowhere near right. Just a different feeling alltogether than something late-model. It turns heads and starts convo's constantly. The goal with that car is something that tends towards a street legal road-racecar thats still somewhat comfortable.
With the MB, I actually like the factory wheels quite a bit, and there was a guy on this board that had a black one on these stock wheels, but he lowered his. I searched his posts and couldn't find how, but I'm assuming it was with coilovers. Looks pretty sweet, but I really dont want to sacrafice ride quality and get into drivetrain angle issues/steering geometry issues, plus where I live there are some nasty speedbumps.
Maybe I'll break down and put a CF lip on it. I like the way those look. We'll see... gotta start saving for a house too.

Hello newbie with the 07 C230. That's me, too. It was a used car. It now has 50k. The transmission had multiple personalities. That was fixed and then I got an alignment and overinflated the tires a little. Highway traffic is clogged most of the day, so I drive on any twisty roads I can find. I would like to take it to a solo event, but I'm not that clever a driver yet. How would I get all the orange smudges off my bumper!!!!
What kind of driving do you do when you are not stuck in traffic?
