225/40/18 on 18x8
I currently have 225/40/18 on 18x8 Carlsson 2/5 in front and to me, the tire looks a little thin for the rim. On my previous car, I used to run 235/40/18 on a 18x8 rim and I think the tire width was a better match for the rim width. I know the recommended size is 225/40/18, but I was wondering if anyone is running 235/40/18 up front... I don't think it will be much of a problem but I figure I might as well ask in case someone has had some horribly strange experiences with 235 up front, hehe. :p Anyone need 3 week old 225/40/18 Pirelli P7000 SS?

Yes, the recommended size for 18x8 is 225/40/18, but it doesnt hurt of you put 235/40/18. However, it will be more balanced if you put 265/35/18 at the rear.
How do you like your SS so far? Are you sure you want to get another set of 235/40/18 P7000 SS? If I were you, get the Pilot Sport A/S or RE950 (if you really want to put All Season rubbers).

Yup, know what you mean. Know that look because my setup looks the same with the exception that I have 17x8 wheels with a 225/45/17. It definitely doesn't leave much rim protection.
There had been several posts in the past regarding 235/40-18s. If I remember correctly most of them said it was OK to use. But some cautioned because of wheel offset, lowering, roll the lip, etc. I know its all a garbled mess but I'm too lazy to STFF. The one thing I know for sure is that the speedometer and the odometer will be off because the tire diameter will increase by about .32"

225 is a good fit for an 8" wheel if you get the right tire. Not all 225's are equal. Something like Kuhmo's are a thin 225 while the S-03's fit nicely and provide some rim protection. If you choose a good tire then 225 will be fine and you will be able to keep the 25" overall diameter that the car came with

if you want thicker tires not wider ones, shouldn't you be going to 225/45 or something? i thought the first number is the width of the tire. i'm currently running 235/40/18 on my car. a little rubbing in the front, but my car is not lowered. however you don't really wanna go too wide and tear through the front tirewell. i did that and the windshield washing fluid is there. so in my opinion keep the 225/40, esp if your car is lowered. and if you really don't want your 225/40 i mite be willing to take them, how much you want for them?
