New LED concept!
Forget the load equalizers... someone elses project with the 194 bulb idea gave me this food for thought..

Check out the luxeon ring light. It looks like one of the rings may fit around our current bulbs? If so then the bulb can act as the equalizer and you can get the benfit of LED as well. PLUS they are super bright (up to 120 candle) and available in white or any other color - itseems.
Someone with enough tech saavy and the proper measurements, please sanity check this. I'd like for us to put our heads together to see if there's finally a good LED tail solution!!

I'd be cautious about this "super-bright" idea... Aren't there certain regulations definig brightness levels of various auto lights? Ever followed a car with fog lights on? I don't know about you, but those blindingly bright rear fog lights annoy me enormously.
