Here's the SC muffler removal in a nutshell.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0HNMjPYfUk8
The black plastic piece in the plenum is the part you need to remove.
With the ASP pulley is sounds like a freakin' jet!
I think I posted more detail elsewhere around here somewhere.
The only tricky thing is the hose that attaches to plenum, there's a clip.
You need to document the position of the clip, like draw a picture, so when you reinstall it will go easy. If you don't line it up just right it'll drive you nuts. The hose will pop out etc.

You need to fill a screw hole, I used a bolt and put locktite on it.
And you need to order a new gasket.
A1110980380- SC Manifold gasket
A1110980880- Red Rubber round gasket oil catch to SC
I already had this info handy as I helped the guy who did the video...
Good luck!
You'll need a complete set of inverted torx, various socket extensions, and a universal adapter to get the angle to remove the bolts on the plenum.
It would be wise to do the suspension 1st.
Springs and sway bars at the least. (which can be had for as little as ~$400)
With the increased torque, the car will wallow like a pig every time you hit the gas if you don't.

It takes a couple hours. You need to put a bolt through the plenum and put locktite on it as removing the 'muffler' leaves an unused hole.
So, a mechanic would likely have some nuts and bolt laying around he could use.
For me, I had to make a special trip to Ace with the plenum in hand to find the right size bolt and nut. Be sure to locktite it. So that added a little time.
You don't want it coming off and getting sucked into the engine.
(Knock on wood!!!)
Be sure to order those gaskets in advance.
How many miles on your car? If over 100K maybe just do it in conjunction
with an SC rebuild or better yet have it ported. No point in pulling all that apart
just to remove the SC muffler. While you're in there, have the alternator rebuilt too (about $200), and put in new belts. Flush the rad, check the pullies and tensioners and be ready for another 100K miles.
All this would cost well under a grand, but waiting and repairing each item separately as it breaks would cost much more and creates a lot of stress, breaking down etc.

Thanks for the insight. My Coupe has almost 91K miles on it. I just replaced the oil, filter, air filter (K&N), fuel filter and spark plugs (NGK Iridium). Flushing the coolant is next on the list.
I was thinking of getting an APS pulley and doing that and replacing the belt while in there. What is the part number(s) for the belt(s)? I cannot seem to find it/them on getmercedesparts.com. Who would rebuild and port the SC for me? Also, can't you buy a rebuilt alternator from AutoZone or some place like that and give them your core for a reduced price? If not then who rebuilds alternators?
Finally, after closer inspection of my motor, I don't think I am actually building any boost (no wonder why my 10 year old Coupe is still getting 32MPG) -- I have a huge hole in the plastic intake runner/pipe up near the top of the motor.

That's the worst cold air intake I've ever seen.
Obviously, you'll need a new pipe. My s/c belt has been replaced a couple of times (I've got the Renntech pulley) with a Goodyear Gatorback belt; if you can't find an answer here by searching, ASP should be able to tell you what belt they recommend when you order the pulley. You'll need a different length than OEM, BTW.
I've gotten two alternators over the life of my car (153k - inching closer to the 155k grille badge!), both new. I do think that someone here mentioned getting theirs rebuilt within the past couple of years.
Someone had a place in FL I believe rebuild their s/c and possibly port it a bit - you should be able to come up with something in a search.
