Soooo, talking c230 sedans, does anyone know if there is a difference between REAR calipers/pads/rotors on '03 vs. '04.5 vs. '05 (US) models? We know the C32 rears are vented and are 300mm vs. 290 for the ?? year c230's ...

Obviously, C32 owners are compensating for deficiencies elsewhere.

So the '05+ has the AMG brakes?

My car feels like it stops on a dime already, maybe that's why

Well, then you've found your target market for the used bits when you decide to upgrade.

Question(s) for Infected....

Have you completed the upgrade to C32 brakes on your C230 Coupe?
I drive an '05 Coupe and am interested in performing the same upgrade.

Specific questions -

- Did you find the C32 brake components to be direct bolt ons? Any modifications required to allow the parts to fit?

- Were you able to re-use the stock mounting bolts?

- Will the spare fit over the C32 brakes?

I've searched, and searched, and serached the forum, but it seems a little more difficult to find specifics on Coupes...we need to stick together. I appreciate any advice you can give.

Thanks in advance,

Jeff

I found a set but I'm in not exactly sure if I will be doing it because I will need larger wheels and new tires for winter. The only mod is the dust shield on the rear, everything else is the same. Spare will not fit.

Thanks Infected.

The spare not fitting may be a deal breaker for me. I'll have to think on that a little. Luckily in South Carolina, I don't have to keep up two sets of wheels.

Thanks for the input.

Keep in mind a C32 doesn't even come with a spare (I don' think).
I keep a large can of seal a flat in the back.
My spare will only fit on the back.
Typically you would rotate the rear to the front but if you have offset wheels like
I do now, obviously that wouldn't work, hence the fix-a-flat.

I any case (and I may regret saying this, as in jinxing, so I'm knocking on wood)
in the uh...lets see....5-6 years I've had the C32 front brakes, I haven't had a flat on the front that caused me any grief.
As such, though, I do have AAA+ which allows a tow of up to 100 miles, or a hotel
if it's more than 100 miles to home, and a tow to a shop.

C230 Sport Coup or Infected,

I'm still running the stock, 17", staggered, '05 wheels and I know that the offset of the rear wheels keeps them from fitting up front.

Digging a little further, I noticed that my '05 owner's manual lists the spare for the C230 as 15" w/ 12 mm offset, while it lists the C320 spare as 16" w/ 12 mm offset.

Is the reason that our C230 spare won't fit over the larger C32 brakes due to the 15" wheel diameter or is it an issue of offest (wheel spokes contacting the calipers)?

Would a C320's 16" spare clear the C32 brakes?

Can anyone confirm whether the C32s came with or w/o a spare? If so, what size?

Sorry for all the questions...just trying to sort out the details before I proceed.

Thanks again,

17" minimum is required for the 13.6" rotors.
A larger spare will not fit in the tub provided
on the coupe. I think the C320 came with a regular wheel and tire.
The coupe an inflatable POS and you have to blow it up.
I'm almost ready to toss mine for the weight savings.

For long trips, carry an extra wheel with tire if you are going to be far from help....thats what I do. And those nice wheel cover carriers like they sell at tirerack.com are quite nice and keep the wheel from messing up other stuff.
That means folding down the rear seats though.

I bought a set of C7 rims off the forum for $50.
he he...one was cracked, and one I sold for 85 online and the other 2 I still have.
The cracked one is worth 20 for the metal if I ever get to a scrap yard.

Does $273.70 sounds about right for a single left or right front C32 Caliper brand new?

Yup.
~ $550 for the calipers,
~ $200 for the rotors
~ $100 for pads (Akebono FTW)
~ $5 - Sensor

Still less than current price at Evil Sport....ah...back in the day they
blew the whole thing out the door for $550....but those days are gone.
I paid $600 before the dollar tanked. $700 with tax and shipping.

Yes, they will. That's why C230 Sports Coupe bought a C7 rim to use as a full spare.
