Goin' skiiing! Now, what chains / cables to buy?

Anyone have any input on chains or cables on a C Coupe?

I'm thinking cables.
Any reason I shouldn't just go the local parts store and just buy them?
Looking online at some places there's a lot of choices.

If you've had to drive with chains, let me know how it worked out.

AND I'm changing the springs soon, (Vogtland) so I wonder how that will affect things?
I noted that the Vogtlands have one coil less in the back than a pic that was posted of the Kleeman's...hope I still have enough clearance, or else buying that 2nd set of wheels will have been a
waste.

Oh, I only want them for the occasional ski trip.
So no I don't want full on snow tires.
The 2nd set of tires have all season Michelin's on them,
and in CA you MUST carry chains, because sometimes they are required by the CHP.
Sometime even just to go over 17 to Silicon Valley!
That doesn't happen very often.

Chains can't be used with your C7 tires and wheels. They are too wide. Page 374 of the 2002 coupe manual indicates that chains should only be used with the 205/55 16's.

for cables, just go to your local Autozone/Kragen/Pep Boys/(insert car part place here) and pick up a set of cables. Make sure you get the heavy duty ones. you'll be able to tell which ones those are bc they're $20 more and if you take em out and look at them, and you compare them with regular ones, you'll see that they're far more substantial. and i can tell you they do work better.

Key words....2nd set of wheels...

I bought a set of the stock C coupe alloy takeoffs in perfect condition from Ryan off ebay with brand NEW all season Michelins on them for 525.

The tires cost more than that at tirerack.com

So I figger I got the rims for free. :-)

Yup, I know about that problem with the C7's.
You guys have short memories!! ;-)
I might even be the one who brought it up first?!

Found some chains at

http://www.tirechains.com/car-tire-chains.htm

Somebody in the forum bought them there....

My question was more of, can I trust the local parts store to sell me the right thing, or should I go for the more 'boutique'y solution.

I'll call the guys at the chain url, and see what they say, after all, it's all they do.

Buell, yer stil running stock rims?
He he....well personally I kinda like the stock rims.
Went to alot of trouble to get 'em too....won the auction in the last 30 seconds and drove down to get 'em.
Shipping was gonna be 100-200, so what the heck.
ROAD TRIP! Made it in 6 hours from Santa Cruz.

Too bad I missed you...I was in Newport, and Laguna Beach mostly. Next time.

1 sway bar is in, the other still in shipment....
springs in hand...just waiting for the other bar......
