I bought one from ebay also. Mine came in the same MB plastic bag you have pictured. But the back plate or base of mine was chrome. Was a challenge installing it using the 2 little sleeves but other wise it fit fine.
I guess what i'm trying to say is. If it came in that same plastic bag with MB label. It should be OEM. Wait for other Folks here to reply to your post and see if anyone else ran into the same proplem as you with THAT specific back plate or base.

how does it not fit?? i haven't looked at that part in awhile, ever since i put on my flat badge, but if i'm remembering correctly, it seemed like there was a lot of room under there??? and from the pics on ebay, the black part doesn't seem bigger than normal?? you have any pics?

if the actual emblem fits into the hood, you can hold it in with 3m autmotive adhesive. once its dry it won't go anywhere

i ended up just cuttign the out plastic on the black piece to get it to fit n used a piece of clay bar to hold it on. But this had to be the worst experience ever a 5 minute job turned to 3 hours. First i dropped the black piece and somehow flew under my engine. So since im couldnt reach it after trying to cram my hand down there i tried to move the pieve forward using a chopstick (dont ask im asian LOL). Then i ****ing got the chopstick stuck under my engine. After 50 tries to remove the chopstick and emblem i finally got both out using claybar to stick the chopstick to pull it out. After that debadge my car now im happy. Another warning to other lay something over ur engine incase the back peice falls off so it dont get stuck anywhere and never use chopsticks lol

The interesting thing here is that last years MB official price sheet shows it as $17.50 retail. Compare that to the ebay link above.

Thats how fleabayer's make money while keeping fees to a minimum. First clue to check with the stealership should've been the posted PN. But there are always those that believe fleabay is where the bargains are.

Weird, I have ordered grill+emblem from this seller and it was a perfect fit. Maybe he changed his supplier.
