Does a 2006 C230 without Harmon Kardon still have an amp?
I'm trying to figure out how the audio system is setup in my car so I can add a little bass. I do not have the Harmon Kardon audio, but I don't know if the car still has a factory amp. Does anyone have any information about this? I am still searching the audio forum for this info, but because all the models are lumped together in there I'm not having any luck finding what I need to know.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Of course your car has an amp. You would hear nothing from the speakers without one. The question should be does my car have a separate amp?
No, the amplifier for the loud speakers is inside the head unit. It is a four channel unit allowing stereo audio, left to right balance and front to rear fading. There is no subwoofer, nor any surround decoding done.
Cars with premium audio have a subwoofer, surround decoding, and the microphone above the passenger's head controls the volume with respect to ambient noise. There is a separate amp located under the carpet in the trunk. It is mounted on the trailing edge of the wheel arch on the right (passenger side.) The signal for the amp is carried to it on the fiber optic system. It is the D2B protocol in cars upto 2004, annd MOST protocol from 2005 onward.

Yes, that is what I meant. Ok so then I guess I just need to get a line-out converter and use the rear speaker signals. Of course that also opens up the fairly easy ability to change out the factory speakers and add an aftermarket amp. Do the tweeters in the doors run off the same channel as the front speakers and have some sort of crossover (which I know nothing about)?

there is a crossover for them. it's pretty easy to change everything out if you have the standard system- more or less the same as any other car. there's wiring diagrams all over this board as well as how-to's for taking the dash apart to get the radio out.
