Extended Warranty
I got a call from the dealer yesterday that my car is ready for pickup.
Car was making noise from underneath the car and as Glyn said it was confirmed that it was indeed the cat. They said they changed the cat and flashed the tranny software. The transmission was lagging soo much. I would press on the gas and it would take 1-2 seconds for it to respond and it would respond by doing a very hard downshift. Before this the car was very responsive and right when I would hit the gas it would go (felt like it was already in the right gear).
I was looking into getting some shoes for the car but lately I think I rather get the extended warranty. I got a quote a 6 year/90,000 warranty or until my car reaches 100 thousand miles (my car now has 23 thousand) is going to cost me 2,100 with a deductible of 100 dollars.
What do you guys think? Good price on the extended warranty?

sounds like a good deal on the extended warranty. the longer you wait the more it will cost to upgrade to an extened warranty since they will think that your car is starting to come apart and you wanna cover your a** with the warranty lol

I'd get the extended warranty too... its not exactly true that the longer you wait, the more it is. The price does go up every year or two but they don't base the price of the warranty on the condition of your car. The price is a flat price accross the board for any c-class. See the mercedes web site.

Third party warranties are also sold by MB dealers. The third party warranties are usually lower in price then the factory extended warranty and the coverage may not be equal to the MB extended warranty.
MB extended warranties on new vehicles prices increased a couple of years ago over 50% with a surcharge of about 15% after the first thirty days of ownership with no deductible.

Read all of the fine print before you buy anything. My sister got caught in some BS warranty where she has to replace whatever is broken first, and then if it breaks AGAIN, they'll cover it. It's useless (so far).

EXTENDED WARRANTY
The third party are more restricted than the MB warranties and cost less. I purchased a GEICO warranty on my new 96 C280 new with a $300.00 deductible for about $60.00 a year for seven years 100,000 miles. The cost increased with each year of coverage. The warranty could only be transferred to another GEICO Policyholder. A representative was sent out on every claim a most repair were approved. The engine oil leak was not approved within tolerance.
I purchased factory warranty on my 2000 E320 never had to use it.
Some of the third party warranties companies go out of business and open up again in a new name.
There are MB factory warranties that are available after a year of ownership and high mileage the prices are usually very high. If you shop around with other dealers you may be able to get a better price.
My E550 2009 new I got quotes from $3,200.00 up to $6,000.00 for the factory warranty 7 years 100,000 miles. It took a while but I did find a couple dealers with reasonable prices.

Must wonder, with many people claiming to come out ahead on extended warranties, how these companies stay in business...

If you've got the cash to drop on an extended warranty, I've always thought that you might as well just set it aside (preferably in a money market or some sort of liquid account that will at least earn you a little interest/return). If a big repair comes up, then the money (or most of it) is available. If nothing major ever happens before you sell the car, then you've got a nice chunk of change to put down on the new one. There are those repairs that may cost more than the entire cost of the warranty, but those situations have to be few and far between...otherwise these companies wouldn't exist.
You're making a bet either way. I guess I'd just prefer to bet that a car I researched and trusted is going to continue to be reliable rather than the other way around.

Exactly. Obviously, the companies' actuaries do enough homework to make these warranties profitable for their businesses.

Ya this warranty stated you must have 30 days or 1,000 miles still left on warranty in order to qualify.
You guys are right I should read the fine print. It says Bumper to Bumper but there might be a small print about it.
Thanks for the info guys.
By the way Glyn today they called me for my car and said it was the Tranny and the noise changed from being the cat to being the tranny.
I talked to the service guy to get more info to help out other members about the 2nd to 1st downshift (hard/jerk) he said most of the time it's the torque converter (Don't know what that is

I took in my W203 C350 and they gave me a w204 C300 (loaner). I feel enclosed in the w204, but man the c300 doesn't pull for jack.
