Trimming springs
I tried searching for this, but the lack of boolean operators in the search makes it difficult. All I see is hundreds of chrome trim and aftermarket spring threads. Anyways...
Has anyone simply trimmed a bit off the front springs to even out the wheel gap? The front wheel gap being greater than the rear drives me crazy. I havent measured yet, but I'm sure less than 1" of front drop would do the trick.
I'd trim them with a cutting tool on an angle grinder. I'd cut a little and then cool the spring, never letting it get hot. I know some consider it taboo, but plenty have done it with no issues, provided you have a tangential spring to start with. Get an alignment afterwards, and done.
I know its going to increase the spring rate some, but that's what I'd want if I'm lowering the car anyway. It would also tune out some of the factory understeer.
So, has anyone done this already? Any problems that I'm overlooking?
