Getting an indash dvd installed, need advice on install

Hey,

I just got my panasonic indash dvd/mp3 player with 7 inch lcd. It is 45 watt times4 so its got more power than my dam stock unit.

Anyways, the instructions say u cant use it unless its in partk, or without having the brake on. I personally wont be watchin that crap with it moving, but what if i wanted it to work. If anyone has one installed, do u know how to override this?

Also, I will lose my steering controls and changer, but since my car is leased, i think reinstallation of these items wont be too hard?

Just give me suggestions, im getting this done tomrow monring.

I appreciate it!

Steering wheel control might be loss... I thought i have seen ppl post wiring harness that allows you not to lose the steering wheel control, but I have never actually seen it in real life or heard anything about it.

On the panasonic unit, there is a hack for it that tricks the unit to thinking your brake is engaged.

i suggest taking it to a good audio shop that can do this for u.

On a Pioneer unit that I've played around with, there was a wire that hooked up to the parking brake wiring which if I remember correctly had to be grounded to think that the parking brake was engaged. I think most of those head units should use something similar... same thing as turbo timers which shut off the car when the parking break is disengaged so no one drives off w/ your car as it's cooling down. The car was a manual so that was it, but I'm not sure how it would hook up to an auto to sense that the car was in "park". BTW, I think it may be illegal for a stereo shop to install it such that it will use it while the car is not parked... I know most places won't do it.

For my Kenwood, you just have to ground it.

My SRS lite came on, but its only when teh driver puts his seatbelt on, otherwise it stays off.

I am worried if i get the installation done tommorow THEN go to teh dealer, they will blame the installation on the SRS problem?

is it wise to wait, I have an appoint, ment with the audio shop in the morning. Please advise lol

If i were you, i'd probably get the SRS problem taken care of first... you never know what the dealer is going to try to tell you.

I bet its the seatbelt lock. Only happens when i latch my seatbelt, all the others in teh car dont set it off. Goes away as soon as i take my seatbelt off

I will get it installed otmmorw., I hope they do a clean job.

I hope i can have it so i can watch dvd while moving not really me but for the people in my car. Otherwise its a waste where do i just idle my car and sit there.

lol

I have been meaning to take pics. I live in Monmouth County.

My system setup is:

AVX-P7300DVD
AVIC-90DVD
AVM-P8000R
CDX-P670
GEX-P900XM

(all off the stock BOSE speakers)

I will try and take pics this weekend.

Closed.

I lost steering controls and my cd changer but this has mp3 so its not that bad.

It sticks out a little when closed but I dont think there is much i can do about that since the dash on the W203 is curved in the middle.

The metra kit works fine, tommy gave it to me.

Yes, but then I think you would need to run a second set of speakers as the stock unit is optic and the DVD player wouldn't be.

Depends on if u have the bose system or not ofr the optics.

My installer gave me the option of doing that, but would need serious rewireing and both wouldnt work with my amp and subs at the same time.

Trust me tho, I thought I would miss the stock HU and i kinda do cuz it looked neat, this doesnt look GREAT when closed but it has so much better stuff, sounds so much better, mp3 capability and movies.

I lost steering contrls but i got a remote so its all good

Now I just need to get the car in ASAP becasue of the belt shredding itself apart.

I have the non-bose in my c230 and it is still a fiber optic HU, it can still be done just to have it underneath? And its would not be possible to have it work with the subs?

The speakers are optical too, how would they get it to work with both? All '99 + MBs are optical, no?

No, the speakers are not optical. That is impossible. Speakers convert electrical impulses into mechanical impulses which result in sound.

If you do not the have the factory cd changer, the headunit is not connect to anything with fiber optics.

In my old car, i have a kenwood dvd, and i believe it was just grounded, the shop (al and ed's) did it for me, having DVD and not watching it while driving is pointless... It was never a distraction for me. But yes it is illegal, so be careful, i have had cops pull up next to me, and almost pull me over because of it

How does a cop almost pull you over?

*pictures ADD cop put lights on, then drive away cuz he gets distracted*
