Thats what happens with the 02's...

What does the red and blue buttons look like? Little arrows or the whole button is colored?

i notice that in a pic too. I think if the temp buttons are lil arrows and now whole oval shapped button then its newer ones (also i think the EC/Rest button now say off/rest). I was lucky enough to get one of the old ones (didnt even know about it and it works.....almost perfect meaning sometime buttons are 'sticky' and i still havent discovered tunnel mode

they are not little arrows , looks like little dots all pushed really close together and the button then sorta looks like its one solid color. also it says EC/Rest on it, not AC OFF. the tunnel mode worked. but it just kept blowing hot air. then i took the unit out, and put the original on in. turned it to AC and cool air blew out. then i took that out and put the digital one in then it was stuck on blowing cold air. i also noticed the part number to my analog controls is 209 830 0185. it would make sense that the digital climate control 209 830 0285 might work then. i dunno, thats why im asking!

Thats odd...you have the exact same problems as the new ones...I wonder if yours was a 'final' run of the old ones with the new components or something...where did u buy it from?

already did it!! the digital looks cool, but the analog is working just fine for me, plus the quy from euro parts express told me i could return it for a credit if i needed to. im sending it back to him this weekend. do you guys think the 209 830 02 85 unit would work since my analog units # is 209 830 01 85? im wondering if it is worth a try. any of the other 03 owners who tried the 209 830 02 85 units and they didnt work, were your analog units 209 830 01 85, or another number?

I never looked when I pulled my analog unit out, sorry. You can pick up the 02 unit at almost any MB dealer for around $250...the 09 was the expensive $600 unit.

im totally enjoying my new car. i havent one complaint. even my not so good luck with the digital climate control has nothing to do with my car itself. i just got back from penske motors asking about the part. i was told that my climate control is for a california car and the one im trying to replace it with is for a non ca car. thats why it isnt working. from what i saw on the sheet he brought up was that the only climate control that looked close enough in options was the 209 830 02 85, because both units had emissions code for ca underneath, but the there was 1 option that didnt match. im wondering if i should by the 209 830 0285 and try and install it. i would like to be able to return it though if it doesnt. ill probably just keep the analog one. im happy with it and really dont wanna keep opening up the center dash area.

The 02 will not work, and you have your explaination for the 09 not working. Unless you secure 100% money back before buying an 02, I wouldn't suggest doing it as you have a 99.99% chance it will not work.

i would trade it but im afraid the 02 85 wont work either. i was looking at the spec sheet and it doesnt have ca emissions on it either. what doesnt make sense is how does a ca C320 digital climate work, and what number is it??

another thing is my VIN on my car doesnt show up as a califonia vehicle, but the climate control is a ca climate control. im not sure if its because its so new or what. is there any california coupe owners with a 2003 that have successfully installed a digital climate control. the parts guy told me to get the VIN from the car and he could look it up and give me a place to start. or maybe the part number to a C320, or preferably a C240 with digital climate control and possibly the VIN.

im probably just gonna give up. the anaolg unit is al that bad, its auto and works fine. plus i hate to keep taking the dash apart. i dont know!

I have the same problem w/ mine in my sedan, it just keeps blowing cold air. I will try and get the part # once I pull it out and put my old one in. Mine is also the old style.

This unit works just fine in a Euro sedan as it was tested in the Netherlands before I recieved it. Maybe I needed a CA version.

hmmmm.....

Didn't your car come with it stock? I thought all 320 Sedans have them stock.

well from the parts dept. at penske motors they say that the options need to match for climate controls whether swapping digital for digital or analog for analog. option 484 is the ca emissions code for the climate controls but from EPC sheet they gave me i cant find anything that matches. they told me that the controls for a C320 wont work because different options and i never asked about a C240. but because of the ca emissions thats what i was told. again, im not sure if they were blowing smoke or what, im just relaying the info!!
