1.8 kompressor (help)

From what I understand this is a new configuration for MB. The old kompressor was 2.3 liters with an iron block aluminum head. The 1.8 is aluminum block and head. Also the pulley kits by kleemann, asp, etc. will not work on this new package. Is there much information out there about getting more performance out of the 1.8? Would you buy this?

Nope nothing yet You are just going to have to wait for products, since this engine is in it's first year.

I own one and it drives very nice, a smooth engine, a little soggy under 3500 rpm but strong enough too pull any gear from 2000 rpm up smoothly if your taking a sip of water and can't shift in traffic. It's no race car but it is pleasant to drive, all depends what you are used to and want.

This supercharger is the same size as the 2.3L and runs approx 11 psi of boost (roughly 2x the 2.3L boost) to make the power. The max boost that should be run with this Eaton supercharger is 14 psi. Thus you don't have a lot of room for a pulley to make as much difference as a 2.3L (no pulley exists as far as I know yet).
Given the extra boost level already present, a more effecient intercooler should buy you some HP and that is where I would start. The intercooler looks similar to the 2.3L model but I do not know if it is exactly the same. If it is than you could buy one.(Maybe Kleeman or someone can shed some light on this for us)

I believe that kleeman was comming out with a supercharger replacment. And that it would be in the 2-3k price range?

Its now on the front burner, with knob set at HIGH.

We will use this car in a competition in a few months, so we have to get back after the project. First engine to get the SC replacement is the M111. We will address the M271 after the M111 is complete.

Can we find another color besides pink? I am not that secure with my sexuality that I could ride around with a pink engine.

KLEEMAN, are you guys working on a pulley for the 1.8 as well? I thought Lucas said that was the case.

Oh and I plan on upgrading the Intercooler as well. Hopefully someone will get there first and give us all some performance numbers for that upgrade on the 1.8L engine.

Lucas (KLEEMANN DK) is working on a pulley as well- we will have several options for the 4 cylinder market. FYI: the IC has the same PN for both M111 and M271 engines.

The non-linear relationship of boost pressure to heat as it concerns an EATON SC (higher boost equals exponential increase in discharge T) means the IC is a great place to start on the new engine.

No more PINK (hey it was PURPLE anyway ).

For those of you with 1.8 liter engines, the Renntech intercooler will fit. I bet it will fit the C230 Sport Sedan as well.

KLEEMAN, thanks that is what I thought. I am going to start with the intercooler once they go on group buy or a less expensive alternative shows up. The $1000 for it seems steep, I would much rather it be $5-800. Maybe after enough are produced it will drop. Is Kleeman producing one as well?

Not that Renntech is known for low prices but a thousand is on the low side for an intercooler. The ricer name brands like Greddy are way more than that. It's probably the only mod that I've seen for our car that's priced along side the ricer/pony car market. If you want to save money, get the same exact core they are using from Spearco in L.A. and build your own end tanks. The core is about $400. I'll get you the part number if you are interested. It's likely to cheaper if you shop it from one of their dealers. What happened to BEC? Did they flake out? Also Benzboy said he'll make any intercooler you want and he was about $500-600. Search for Benzboy for that info.
