but wait ... there's more!

perhaps it's cheaper from IBM directly? I think the other company is reselling it.

2002 C320
I also am interested in running the fuel settings in ECONOMY mode so that I can pump cheaper gas, saving over $1,000 over the next few years. (Although I own the C320, I'm a fairly "sedate" driver so performance is not a key consideration.)

What octane level can I burn in ECONOMY mode? Other than a degradation of performance are there any short or long term negative effects to the engine by running in economy mode?

Thanks!

I would think 5-7 hp for 15 min labor, it's not that bad.

Where's the dyno graph of the 5-7 hp? Can you post it up? 5-7 horsepower is a BIG claim for changing the "fuel setting".

I don't see how changing the fuel setting could increase horsepower unless it increased ignition timing. This would require the use of higher octane gasoline but in this case, the fuel economy would probably be BETTER!

ok, we discussed this in more detail in the tuning forum. see this thread --> https://mbworld.org/forums/showthrea...&threadid=6756

but generally, it seems that the fuel RON settings will allow you to use lower octane fuel. see the thread for the table that shows the RON converted to US Octane (eg 93RON = 89 US Octane) not sure what the long term effects would be by using these settings.

fuel settings program

Is the fuel settings program the same as the ignition correction program, or are they 2 different areas of adjustment?
Thanks

When i wanted my fuel settings changes my dealer told me its not possible, so i emailed them the screen shot that KLEEMANN took and i sent it to him and he told me if that was possible to do it would be against the emissions.

ARRGH!!!

This gets me so furious- its not going to do anything illegal to the emissions. These settings are there to help tune driveability issues, all legal, all OK in MBZ's eyes. I mean, come on, they made the F***&^% machine right?

ignition- Kleemann

Kleemann- we checked my 2000 S class today, and it has the ignition correction program in it. It has Baseline, 93 RON, 91 and 89. Will it be of benefit to switch it to 93 RON from the Baseline?
Also, should the fuel setting, if it is another program, also be reset from baseline? Please let me know, as the ignition setting has alraedy been changed to 93, but can be changed back bfore it leaves the shop.
Thanks

I changed the ignition settings on my car to 91 octane and I got 5 mpg better but lost 17hp at the wheels.

There is no benefit to change from basline settings on a stock N/A vehicle. The fuel settings discussed here are for 4 cylinder supercharged cars running increased boost pressure.

What "stage" are they set for from the factory?

Factory settings are at "baseline". Any OCTANE setting will reduce the total advance of the ignition system. Any fuel quantity setting will increase mixture (richen) by a nominal 3%.
