damn its been so long this happened!
 

ok so it was snowing , i'm driving 20 mph or less , im about to take a turn , and my car slides sideways towards the curb , and i hear a little bumm...:eek: i get out the car and look at my left rear rim, and it has a litlle rash, not a bad one, so i headed home!:smash:.. two months later(yesterday) , i start hearing a clank , clank.. on my right rear wheel. Brother-in-law says its the hub bearing , what else could it be , i got under the car , nothing wrong.. only the clanking noise, when i lift the car and turn the wheel:confused:.. any thoughts would be appreciated (sorry for my grammar/spelling) thanks to anybody that wants to contribute! :D

Is your brother-in-law a mechanic or did he stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night?

From what I can make of this, you need to take it to a wheel/tire shop.

he actually knows a bit about cars... i know i should take it to a mechanic , just trying to get second opinions or ideas...:y

I was kidding around with you.. I don't know much about the wheel assemblies.

Problem is likely the wheel bearing or outer CV joint.

Clank clank isn't a bearing noise. Maybe something came apart in the parking brake assembly? Don't assume that the bump two months ago is the cause of the noise. If you can turn the wheel by hand and hear the noise you should be able to pinpoint it. Can you?

Tru - I've collected them over the years from MB. I don't have WIS but that is probably the source of the drawings. I would love WIS. Let me know what you want & I will try & find - Do you specifically want rear axle? My filing system sucks but I have a new rule. When I find something to help a member it now goes in a related file. So the more I help the better my filing becomes.

I agree with Mleskovar that clank clank is not typical bearing. It could be brake assembly & it certainly could be outer CV joint if the boot has failed & let the grease out & sand in. It can also be diff, but you seem to indicate hub & the diff would make other noises as well.

I lost traction once, and went sideways into a curb. (in a FIAT X19)
Both wheel bearings went out within a year.

But that doesn't mean thats your problem.

A wheel bearing tends to be a loud droning noise with the car moving that
changes pitch as the speed changes, FYI.

Fiat X 19 had smaller bearings than my vacuum cleaner.

Hmm - not Vista compatible!

I had to replace my wheel bearing on my rear pass wheel on the C55, because I cracked a wheel :(

Thanks guys , i was going to take everthing apart , but i decided to take it to a mechanic and enjoy my weekend lol, i remember snapping three tools, trying to get my honda accord axle out(replacing the clutch on it) . Gyn m Ruck... very nice images.. Thanks guys!!!:bow:

Download Virtual PC 2007 (free) and all you need is a copy of XP. Install it and enter the product key. You will have to activate it but thats not a problem because you have 30 days so you can use it 30 days till you have to install it over again.

Or you can purchase an OEM version of XP for 100 bucks (full not upgrade) and do a dual boot. (Have Vista and XP on one machine).

Or you can do what I usually do is get a copy from a "Friend" and during activation call Microsoft and say "You are reinstalling windows because your hard drive crashed" "Windows copy has ONLY been installed on this exact same machine on NO other machine" "NO hardware has ever been changed on this machine" and they will give you the validation code.

I personally would go with the dual boot.

Once you do a dual boot it is wise to use an imagine software and image your hard drive. The best one out there is Acronis True Image then Ghost.

Vista is horrible made a lot of PC users switch to MAC.

You know, I love my mac... I've never had any issues other than compatibility issues. Because of this, I run Windows on a partition of my hard drive. I can boot in either Mac or Windows... and in Mac I can run the Windows partition as a virtual machine. And the best part... I have XP!

You have the perfect combo. All you really need is MAC and XP :y

It's great. The problem I had was that I bought my computer after XP was no longer available in stores. The program I used to run Windows as a virtual machine is great because it will copy XP from your old computer, or even copy your hard drive with all your files and all.
