It wouldn't let me post to the other thread (surprise, surprise).
You asked what "CarMax" was.
CarMax is a used car outlet. They are owned by Circuit City. They normally have good size lots with no haggle pricing posted on every car. They will take a trade in whether or not you buy a car from them. I know a few people that will only buy a used car from them. From what I looked at, their prices are very good, and the trade in amounts are usually as good or better than the dealer. They have a website, I think its www.carmax.com

They prices vary, with some EXCELLENT deals to be found. They tend to average the prices out... so all 1999 'x' model will have the same price, even though the features are different. So you can really find some excellent deals. They are total haggle free, even have big signs right at the entrance warning you of their documentation fee (their ONLY fee). No surprises, no pressure, great atmosphere.
Thanks guys. I just checked their web site and they are southern (VA down to FL), so that's not going to work for me, but it sure sounded nice.
I just picked up my C230 today, so now I have to sell my 97 Sube Outback Sport.

Be aware that CarMax rebuilds wrecks. I discovered this while wandering around the Richmond location late one night. The gate to an area enclosed by an tall, solid fence was open and so were the shop doors.
I know that they make a big deal out of not selling any cars that have had frame damage. Other than that, I'm sure that they would fix a car up if it was worth it to sell. They will however accept trade ins that they won't re-sell and ship to auction/wholesale. Is it possible that they fix cars up if they feel they will get a better price in these markets?
--As always, buyer beware. Personally, I have had a good experience with them, at least for the trade in, and I know about 4 people that have bought cars there, and highly recommended them.

I don't think there is much money to be made by repairing a wreck to sell wholesale or auction. It is possible to severly damage a car without bending the frame/unibody. And some of the cars I saw probably were trades, and could be used as parts cars for less badly damaged cars.
