Question Waterlogged engine bay...likely parts?

The little drain plugs got backed up in the engine area, and the platform holding the battery collected inches of water. The fusebox also got wet. Needless to say, I had to have it towed to MB, where I await an answer.

Symptom. The engine would not start. The engine fan came on. All other electical interior equipment works.

I was hoping drying it off would fix everything. But maybe something shorted out?

What do you think the dealer will say? I'll post the results in a few min...

Just had this problem: https://mbworld.org/forums/c-class-w...ont-crank.html

All it really got was my SAM, but that was quite enough for me. If you have comprehensive coverage you may want to give your insurance company a call.

Didn't even think about my insurance; I'm talking to them now. MB wants to replace the SAM and the engine control module. Total cost including cleaning out the drain holes and drying things up: $3189. Good thinking! Let's see if they will accept it...

My adjustor said it is a very common problem with MB, VW and Audi and that they get a ton of these claims whenever the area has a lot of rain. Mine was a pretty simple process and a quick repair once they settled all the paperwork. Hope yours works out the same.

UPDATE: My auto insurance is going to cover the repair: woo hoo! Wondering how much longer to keep the car. $2500 for 2008 repairs. $3K for 2009 (but covered this time...).

Thanks for the advice everyone!

So, the dealer left the parts behind. Is there a secondary market for busted electronics?
