Braking hard from speed of 80Km/h

The ABS worked I think. cuz it sounded and felt like if the car is jumping from the front or something and the wheels were locking and unlocking.

but the steering wheel spinned to the left and I had to catch it and turn it to the right.

is that because the pressure in the left tire is less than the right tire? (1.7 BAR left, 1.9BAR right)

Could be the uneven pressure but it sounds like something is wrong. Try it on a level smooth road. Hit the breaks evenly at speed and hold them without your hands on the wheel. It should stop straight.

If his car is Ok it will stop straight, if not he might be smart enough to grab the wheel before he goes into a wall.

Yes a diference in pressure will cause the car to pull, as will a road that is crowned to the left or right.

Hence, the level smooth smooth road comment.

yeah i've experienced the same thing.... cruising at 80 mph to a quick stop... i stomped on my brakes and the car shifted to the left then to the right... totally locked up the tires.... after all was done i ended up straight and made a loud tire streaking sound in the process.

Only times ABS has ever kicked in for me was when i'm was on ice and dirt paved roads.... I felt ABS pumping the brake when i couldn't fully stop.... ABS is that pumping motion of the brake right?

braking...

I was braking hard yesterday during the wet weather and it was fine. Nothing but the ESP light blinking crazily. I felt the steering wheel and it didn't really budge! Kind of cool i thought!

When ABS activated...

You will feel a continue light(for my opion) taps back from the break paddle.

The slight pulsing from the brake pedal is the ABS modulating the braking force to the wheels. It is only felt when the ABS is activated by wheel lock-up.

Just go try it...

In my opinion, everyone should see how their car reacts to different inputs. That way, when one of the systems kicks in (normally due to a panic situation), you'll know what it feels like. Go find a big empty parking lot that Home Depot or WalMart has abandoned to move a half mile down the road. Slam your brakes with and without ESP, slide it sideways in each mode. Hell, even try a donut or two so you know how to get turned around real quick if you have to. It's not like going to racing school or anything, but at least you'll know what your car will/will not do in certain situations. And besides, it's a lot of fun.

If ABS is so normal and happens to you most of the times then...

that jumping thing in front of the car that happened to me wasn't the ABS?

it happened to me a couple of times before. when I brake hard only.

ABS is not used most of the time. It is only used when the wheel locks up. ABS releases pressure and then re-applies it to keep the wheel rolling as much as possible. ABS should only be used on ice and snow or when braking really hard. You should not be using ABS on a daily basis. If you don't feel the brake pedal pulsating then you are not using ABS.

but if your lets say going 80km/h or even 80 mph and slam on the breaks when abs does engage isnt supposed to release before the wheels locks. ina sense pumping the breaks so many times per second to prevent wheel lock up completely.

Wouldn't the combination of ESP and ABS keep the car from pulling, even if the tire pressure is low on one side?

If your steering wheel turned it was the road if not it was the car. ABS is NOT normally activated when you brake, only when the wheels are going to lock-up which should not happen often if you drive with half a brain.
