Constant "Trunk open" error!
Hey, does anyone know where the sensor is that determines whether the hatch is open? I had to dissasemble the hatch to fix an issue with it not opening. But now I get a constant error.
I didn't see any wires for a sensor or anything.
I tried adjusting the hasp on the bottom, but no such luck.
Help!!

Greetings C230SportCoup,
I *think* the sensor is in the bottom of the hatch,... if you recall about a month ago when Saprissa posted photos of the rear-plate bezel conversion to Euro-specs,... there's a little black box like thingy inside the bottom of the hatch. It has a little claw-like thing to lock the hatch,... take off that felt-like cover on the interior of the bottom of the hatch to access it. It has more than the number of wires needed to operate the power hatch lock thus I'm guessing some is for the sensor you're asking about.
That sensor is a *****,... I had to change licence plate recently and old screws weren't stainless steel,... so they corroded and snapped off ,... so I had to drill out the old screws,... thus temporarily I couldn't reattach the licence plate,... so I had to run a little bungee cord through the trunk lock latch to hold the licence plate temporarily,... Anyways, because this little bungee cord prevented the hatch from closing perfectly, the trunk open error message comes up constantly.
My suggestion:
- first make sure there's nothing preventing a perfect seal when closing the hatch (ie, do you have something like a little bungee cord tied to the trunk lock latch?). Make sure that recessed lock latch on the trunk and the locking mechanism at the bottom of the hatch are both unobstructed.
- second, since you dissassembled the hatch recently,.... I'm guessing it's might not be totally aligned perfectly as before and that's why it's complaining trunk is open. In which case, you should try to realign it,... you could also realign that little black box thingy that has the locking mechanism at the bottom of the hatch. You'll have to take off the felt-like cover on the interior of the bottom of the hatch to get to it.
- third, treat it like a computer,... whenever it gives you weird error messages that you feel it shouldn't and you can't solve it,... just reboot! Disconnect the battery and then reconnect.

+ the parts that double as screws and holders for the trunk cover, are both hosed.

Yes, I had that piece in my hands, it's the part that has the micro switch in it. I wonder if I forgot to connect something? The actual acuator mechanism isn't located in the latch. It has a cable, and the only connector I saw was the micro-switch connection, but I guess I'l have to take it apart again and re-check. I broke a lot of clips on the plastic trim pieces, so I'm dreading taking it apart again.

For the clips, which look like plastic screws with one small screw within the larger plastic screw,... work on prying out the small one first, then the larger one. They're usually reusable. Just have to becareful.
Once you have that felt-like interior cover at the bottom of the hatch off See diagram,... gee, wonder where I got this diagram from,... oh, that's right, you posted it last month! Loosen that black box latch thingy,... close the hatch,.... from the inside of the car, put the seat down and tighten that black box latch thingy from inside the truck,... then it'll be aligned. Good idea to take off that lift-able truck cover so you'll have more room to work when you're in trunk.
