Its so nice to see the Coupe finally get some respect!

Editors' Most Wanted Vehicles for 2003

Most Wanted Coupe Under $25,000

Winner: Mini Cooper

Having not been imported into the States since the year "Sergeant Pepper" debuted, most folks weren't even aware the Mini ever existed until now. The reincarnated version has been blessed with BMW genes and as such has incredibly precise steering and handling that does the original Mini proud. There are two versions: the Cooper and the Cooper S. The Cooper has 115 hp, while the supercharged S has 163 hp. Either way, you're getting a stylish and detailed coupe that makes other cars seem surprisingly ordinary.

2003 Most Wanted List
Honorable Mention: Mercedes-Benz C-Class

At first glance, one may think the biggest reason to buy the C230 is to have the status of driving a Mercedes, albeit an entry-level one. But this is not the case as the hatchback Benz offers lively performance from its supercharged four, handling that seems to improve when the car is driven hard and a roomy backseat. Factor in a number of standard features (including stability control, side curtain airbags and dual-zone climate control) not available on similarly priced sport coupes, and it becomes clear that you're getting a lot more than a prestigious grille emblem.

C230 Sport Coup + 2006 W164 ML350 + 99 Ford Escort (What the heck, it gets 38 mpg!)
The SC mini is a fun car, but with the back seat folded up, you have absolutely NO storage in the rear. Still VERY nicely engineered SMALL, VERY SMALL car. Amazingly safe for it's size.
I bet it's a screamer. What do they weigh?

The Benz is still a much more practical car, and around here, mini's are getting quite common, while a nice C-coupe is about as rare as an F50, or actually I'm more likely to see 550 Marnello than a C coupe. My c coupe turns more heads than a 4re.

I like that.

The Mini performance is a few tenths faster than the C230...mostly due to the C230's poorly chosen 1st and 2nd gear ratios. I love the Cooper S, its one slick little car...if it weren't for the small size behind the front seats(I have a car seat and baby to worry about), I'd probably have had to flip a coin about which car to buy The price gouging going on at the BMW dealer also helped me make up my mind

Maybe it's because there aren't a lot of Coupes around here, but I always get a strange reaction from people. The majority of people who ask me about it think it's some new, high-end, Euro-only model that's a rare exotic. Just yesterday, my 'substitute' mailman was walking around it, checking it out so I went out and talked to him. He wouldn't beleive it was a $30,000 car. People are funny...

1991 mr2 turbo, 2002 coupe
I've found much of the same, this car was poorly promoted IMO, heck I hardly knew about it and I get 5 car mags/month and came very close to getting the 12v VR6 GTI until deciding to check out this one last option just for kicks. How can they expect them to fly of the shelves if people don't even know what it is? Bad for Benz, good for us I guess.

dangit, this probably means the coupe will become more popular. i like being one of the few on the road. hopefully most people still won't wanna put up $30,000 for a "hatchback".
