Thumbs down Dealership ...........

hi

i have one question

lets say someone (lets call him A) bought a car from a dealer called Mercedes-benz of Oakland.....then A sold the car to B after about 6 months...

when B brought the car to MB of Oakland for service/problems...will he be treated as good as they treated A?

should be right?because the car is frfom A who bought the car from MB of Oakland?

thanks

Do they have the same service advisor? You may get different attitudes from different advisors.

No, because they feel that 'B' will never buy a new car so they won't treat him as if he bought it from the dealership. 'B' just bought a used car, period.

Of course this isn't always the case, but its what I have noticed.

If B was there looking at their new and used cars and then decided to buy somewhere else, then B will probably not be treated as well. Unless they don't remember him.

I agree with the others, the fact that this was a used car sold by a third party makes the interpretation difficult. My guess is that B wouldn't receive the same level of preferential treamtment as A would have.

This is what I was told by a former service advisor (who funny enough just happened to work at MB Oakland, although perhaps different situations exist at different dealerships - but I doubt it). In the case of two brand new cars, A (from the same dealer) and B (who purchased his car from a different dealership), A would most definitely receive better treatment than B. This preferential treament isn't anything major, both would ultimately have their cars fixed to the same specification. The benefit is more from minor clerical-type things, such as ease of making an appointment and quickness in getting the work done. Examples: even if B brought his car in before A, A's would get worked on first. Or if A and B both needed the same part and only one was in stock, the one in stock goes to A while B has to wait for another part.

IMO everyone should be treated the same as long as the car is under factory warranty or starmark warranty, and doesn't matter where you bought your car from you should always be treated the same at a MB dealership. If you don't feel that they treat you the same as the other, you can always file complaints at the dealership. But keep in mind that different dealership often has different rules that are not under control by MBUSA.

Maybe different dealers have different policies, because my colleague bought a used S Class from elsewhere and he receives the same treatement as I at my dealer.

You can always express your satisfication, or dissatisfaction, on that feedback survey sheet that you receive in the mail after any service.. And that sheet will mail to MB USA, so they know how their dealers are doing..

Any perferential treatment is subtle, the car gets fixed just the same, it isn't like the techs will do a half-assed job if the car was purchased elsewhere. It'll just be easier to get appointments, and get fixed quicker. I'd bet that most people would be hard pressed to notice any difference.

Just thought of one apparant difference that has been mentioned on the forum: the availability of Mercedes loaners.

How do they know if the car is used?do they always check it?

what if just after 2 weeks of owning the car, A decided to sell it to B?

I think the question is not whether the car is used or not. It is did B buy the car from the dealer or not. Such as my colleague, although he receives the same kind attitude from my dealer on services, he does not get the free loaner.

And, the VIN number will tell them the number of ownerships the car has been through.

well actually, B oredered a new car and the car has arrived but B
is not around to take the car...and B will be away for some time (about a month)

So B is asking A which is a relative of B to use his(A's) name first to buy the car

So the car will be under A's name

but the ownership title will be transferred ASAP when B returns...

and i have one question....what happen if the car turns out to be a lemon(knock wood) ...?

can B complain to the dealer and ask for a new car under the lemon law?

im just worried

thanks

Each state is different, but my state, NJ, states this:

The New Jersey lemon law covers any consumer who buys, leases or registers a new passenger vehicle or motorcycle in the state. Specifically, a consumer is protected for either of the following (whichever comes first):

2 years after the original delivery date of the vehicle
or during the first 18,000 miles

In the event that the vehicle is transferred to another individual during the 2 year/18,000 mile period, that person is also covered under the Lemon Law. As long as a new motor vehicle is within this 2 year/18,000 mile period, the car is covered.

"B" should be treated as well as "A" unless "B" is a pr1ck :p Really though, I do believe that owners' attitudes toward service people can affect the service they receive as much as anything else.
