AC compressor problem, help

Was driving my 2001 C240 and noticed a "clacking" noise coming from under the hood. I stopped and noticed metal shavings under the AC compressor. I attempted to to start the car, and now the car won't start. Appears the AC compressor has locked up and the pulley won't turn. I need to get the car on the road as quick as possible, I've done research but can't find any solutions. The car is at the shop and they say they can't bypass the AC compressor. I've been doing some reading an noticed that a 6PK2310 belt will work on the CL's. Does anyone know of a belt that would work on the C240, or any other solutions? The MB dealership quoted $700 for a compressor. As a last resort anyone know where to get quality parts at a discount price?

Unfortunately, you are looking at probably more like $1500 or more to repair your car. I went to an independent ac shop and saved $$; still wound up costing quite a bit.

THE C350
interesting i thought that the compressor had a fail safe so it would not lock up and cause problems?

my compressor has failed twice and i had no problems driving the car. perhaps a belt has failed and thats why you cannot crank the engine over? if you can somehow disengage the ac compressor clutch you may be able to get the car moving again but to be honest, the best bet is to get it fixed properly, although im sorry to say its going to be expensive. if it is a failed comprssor, try searching for refurbished ones which should lower your cost quite a bit. best of luck but i feel your pain (fortunately for me mine were warrantied)
