blown speakers?!! :(
So apparently my speakers worked last night and when used this morning found the entire driver side of my vehicle speakers were capute! and my passenger ones sound like ish...given they all have sounded like they were going for awhile but am quite upset that this happend...
should i go with oem replacement speakers for go aftermarket (which I assume will mean I need to get a 4 channel amp as well)...doing this just means dollar signs to me and I am not happy about that, but at the same time I am not someone who can drive my car without a stereo...any advice benz-bros???

also the audio 20 doesn't use an amp correct? just the head unit powering the 6 speakers?

Correct. OEM speakers would most likely cost you more than replacing them with aftermarket ones - that depends on selection. But then again it may be your HU.

lol well you have the bose...i just have the audio 20 system...and no i don't blast it really...though i do ride with my windows down alot so my music is louder than normal and I don't blast the bass because I have 2 10" JL so i let them do the bass for me...but ya all my speakers are cracking, and just about an hour ago I was replacing some of my interior lights with LED's and the speakers turned back on for about 10 minutes and then back off again? wtf!
and now my vanity mirror lights don't work, lol...this car is really driving me nuts recently!

Think of it like this... You blew your stock paper ones.. i believe there paper? why replace them to stock again?? Just spend a few more bucks and upgrade to a whole better sound system.. Look at sonicelectronix.com they have killer deals you could find a nice setup for way less then 600 i mean way less***

ya appreciate it...the main thing I've been looking for is woofers to put in my doors like the stock set up...I don't like 2-way components b/c the bass is usually lacking, and besides we already have tweeters so no need for built in tweeters...
Plus I don't want to blow them again by under powering them, which im assuming is what happend to my stock ones, hence why i figured i needed an amp...but how can i get an amp to successfully power 6 speakers w/o under powering them? even powering 4 speakers the most RMS I've found for a decent price is 50 watts...

IIRC, the stock speakers are $85/each at the dealer. My car had to have one replaced while it was under warranty.
On the Bose thing. My G37 had the Bose Studio-On-Wheels system. It's 11 speakers. It was amazing and the 135's system doesn't even come close. I'm not sure why Bose has so many haters.. I've had it in a few cars and it's always been fantastic with one glaring exception - a Pathfinder.

Efff,
no highs no lows, it must be Bose.
Of course, this coming from someone who had the Bose system in a 2002 car.
I too think this may be a headunit issue. Sounds like the tunes are a big issue for you.
Scrap the stock headunit and build up, one piece at a time.
Try some of car audio forums, buy from high rep members and piece together a system. Just like us, those guys go through speakers and amps like no ones business.

True.. Thats why i replaced my stock bose subwoofer.. Sounds 100X better but the highs you can bring out if you mess with some of the settings on the head unit.. I find myself messing with it almost every song.. =P but i like touching buttons... Girls buttons that is.. haha

well im quite sure a wire came loose some how that goes to my entire driver side of the car and my subs because if i push on certain areas of the h/u they work again...but my speakers are cracking and that is a speaker issue so I can't replace all my speakers and h/u...way too much dough!
and I have already posted this question about an aftermarket amp etc in the audio forum and of course no one answers in there...
but ya once I get time I'll ahve to pull apart my dash and see where the pressure is being applied to the wires that is effing up my signal....i feel as if it is from my ipod adapter b/c that is currently sitting behind my HVAC control unit (as well as my ipod amplifier since MB is too cheap to include that into the ipod adapter itself)...
but ya any idea of this stuff would be covered under warranty

i assume you are talking about the Mercedes extended warranty? if so then i would say yes because when my 01 c320's Bose speaker made a crackling noise and i took it in to the dealer they said that if they found a problem it would be covered. turned out to be a bad cd changer. know the only problem is that the cd changer skips like mad even though i checked the pn and it is supposed to be the best one. next mod for my car will be cutting up some foam to try and fix the problem.

Maybe we have the same issue... Only with my ipod pluged in will it do this... Sometimes it will only play out of the right side speakers only... which pisses me off... a way to fix this is if you turn your ipod all the way to max vol and then turn it down.. Then you can hear it play on all speakers.. It only messes up on ipod never on a cd i dunno could be the tape deck thing i have installed or something...

ya i got the extended warranty...the best one as I was told (minus an exact replica to factory warranty which the guy told me was a waste of money on my part)...but I shelled a few grand for it to last me 100k miles so....I just had shoulder surgery so I can't drive for a few weeks but once I can I'll probably run it over to MB of Annapolis to have them see what they can do. Although I know it won't be a one day thing since I'm sure they'll have to order my speakers. This way maybe I'll just get them to replace my OEM speakers and then I can just buy an amp to power them so I don't have to worry about my H/U clipping.
