That doesn't really surprise me given your C280 is an automatic and 4Matic versus his RWD, lighter, C230 with a 6-speed.

The 06-07 C230s are slower than the 05s in this quarter mile hypothetical situation we're talking about. The newer powertrains are great but they added weight and lost torque.

Per Benz's own in-house figures the 6MT 2006 vs 6MT 2005 there is about a 1/2 second difference. 7G 2006 Vs 5AT 2005 is about a full second, IIRC. That's pretty significant, if you ask me.
