0410 code and noisy supercharger help
Hello All,
I am trying to track down a problem for a friends 02 C230 coupe and was hoping you guys could help.
The car is getting a code 0410 secondary air injection system malfunction, is losing power and the supercharger is very noisy.
From searching it looks like the normal cause for the 0410 is a bad check valve in the back of the motor. But the supercharger is very noisy and has a loud whine that gets louder with speed. I know superchargers have whine, but this is real loud. Plus my boss's c230 sedan made no where near as much noise as my friends coupe.
She was told by a shop that the compressor is bad and it's going to be $1800. Being a girl that is all she remembered. I don't know if that means the supercharger since it's the Kompressor model or some smog air pump. Could it be the supercharger or just a check valve and bad pulley? What do you guys think it may be or where should I start checking?
Thanks for the help.

Kompressor is a supercharger. If the kompressor is bad, then it needs to be replaced.

The supercharger's life is finite. However, I don't seem to recall reading too much about S/C failures on this board. How many miles does she have?

$1800 Eff. You can get the S/C rebuilt and the internal oil replaced. Having been there and done that I can tell you it is an easy job. $800 for the rebuild with a Porting
. Another $75 odd bucks for gaskets if you are a DIY amigo. Try googling Steigmeir (sp? they are in my sig).
The 0410 OBD code likely comes early in the a.m. when she does her first throttle past and slow start. You can clear the code and then nurse the hell out of the car till warm up and then it is a non issue. However, I advise cleaning out the check valve. It'll have a build up of crap that can be cleaned out.

Yes give Stiegmeier a call or email they are very nice and no exactly what they are doing. I have a CRX with a M45 SC they ported it checked it out quick turn around!!! Also www.thehighspeedlab.com can do the same and also coat the case inside for better clearance. Check them both out either can rebuild and do a great job also highspeed sells rebuild kits.
