C240 - 6 speed
gas gauge question

Well the dealer replaced the cracked gas tank on my C240, but now the gas level gauge reads right under full when the tank is really full. Before the replacement it would read a bit over the F in the gauge.

Is there a calibration procedure for this gauge, I know on my E36 M3 there is such a procedure.

Or did they manage to mess up the level sender when they replaced the gas tank.

Oh well, yet another visit to the dealer.
Eventually this car will get sorted out.

Well, my first question is...

Why worry about it, and why subject the car to another repair where they have the potential to screw something up?

All fuel gauges are inherently approximations, because of all the variables involved. If you KNOW how it reads at full, and it is consistent over several weeks worth of fillups, then I would leave it alone. If you get inconsistent or wildly fluctuating readings, then those are grounds for taking it apart - otherwise, I'd advise leaving well enough alone.

I don't know how your gauge registered "full" before, but mine just barely hits the full mark when I fill up. Most cars I've owned go past full after a fill-up.

Same with mine. And a C240 loaner I returned recently. Gas gauge is only barely on full even when I top it off. I think this is normal.
