It's still hot here in So Cal.

While driving on freeway, warning light came on telling me that the coolant is low. Back to the office, I searched this forum and read people recommend Zerex G05.

Auto Zone did not have it and the guy told me just put in the same color coolant as the what is in it now. Not sure if it's a good recommendation.

I asked about Zerex at Kragen. They did not have it on the shelf but have them in the back. $14.99 + tax.

From the bottle, this Zerex is approved by MB, Ford, Toyota etc. I think it's what they use when they built the cars.

The person who told you to use the same color is an idiot (sorry, I'm having a bad day). The color of the coolant doesn't mean much if anything.

If you want to do it right use the Zerex - it is NOT similar to the other coolants but is a specific formulation that MB designs the coolant system for. Because your car is a pre-05 model you can probably get away with using a different coolant (still a bad idea) but those with 05 and up vehicles (gel pack added to reservoir) must use Zerex.

It's about $2 more compare to other brands. So why not.

I am glad I went to Kragen and ask for it (it's not on their shelf).

I only used about 2 cups and filled almost to the top this morning. Should I leave some room for expansion?

You should only be filling it up to the black portion at the top of the reservoir. When you look inside from the top you will see a white plastic "rib" that goes across. The coolant level should be right at that rib, no higher. There is a document from MB kicking around somewhere that specifies this.

Thanks. I checked and I was about 1/2 cup lower than the white plastic bar.

I went to Kragen site to buy some spark plugs. And found you can buy online and pick up at store. This Zerex is cheaper online.
