Considering 06 or 07 230, 240 or 280 4matic, need some info

First off is it me or are all the Merc model designations confusing? I am in the market for an 06 or 07 AWD model. If someone can point out which models are available with the awd in these years I would appreciate it.

Secondly, are there specific things to consider here, to look out for and to avoid. This is a car for my teen daughter so safety considerations are important. I hadn't really considered Mercedes but thought I would take a look at used car prices and to my surprise I find a pretty nice selection under $20,000 even from dealers.

What kind of prices are you guys seeing and can I expect to be able to negotiate either the certification or an extended warranty and stay under this threshold?

The last year for the C240 was 2005. I think your best bet is probably a C280 4Matic. I would expect to pay a bit over $20,000 for a CPO 2007 C280. Maybe ~23 but I'm not totally sure about that.

I have a '07 C280 4-matic and can't say enough good things about it. Only 27,000 miles so far but not a single problem of any kind. It is a great car and to my surprise the same size as a VW Jetta. I just found that out when my wife bought a new Jetta and parked it next to me in the garage. I would go for a CPO car if possible as repairs will be costly if needed.

Good luck shopping, Greg

In 2006, the C240 and C320 were replaced by the C280 and C350 (respectively). All of these models were available with 4-matic.

Any "sport" designated model in recent W203 C-class history is not available with 4-matic.

IMO, the C280 is probably what you're looking for. It has plenty of power, same as the new W204 C300 engines.

I'm getting the picture

now. Thanks guys for the replies. What do you think is the lowest I can expect to find a 2007 4matic C280 for with around 40,000 on it. What would be an average expected price. intellipriceauto.com shows the current trade in range to be $15,600-$19,600. I don't really know how accurate this can be as I don't know how they would possibly obtain this info.

It all depends. Keep in mind that back in 2006-2007, they didn't have the package options that they do now. Almost everything was an option. The big ones to look for are Command (nav), sunroof package (almost all cars have this one), memory seats, Bi-xenon headlights. All 4-matics will have a 5-speed automatic transmission. The only real safety option there was back then was the rear seat door airbags.

When I bought my c230 2 months ago I looked at a c280 4matic with about 28k miles on it and they wanted 26,500 CPO. NOt bad and I'm sure I could have worked them down a little more. You can go on mb website, select CPO, and search for your car and it will tell you where all the CPO ones are in your area. Thats how I found mine.
