Not in the US (at least for the Coupe and I imagine the lower-end C-sedans, not sure if this is the case with the C320), there are motion sensors available in Europe as an option.

No it doesn't. My car was broken in (thru a window) and the alarm did nothing. They (thief) can't unlock the car from inside tho, pushing the unlock button does nothing.

That's kind of stupid. I thought that at least if the window was broken that the thief would set off the alarm when opening the door.

Ummm....what happened if you lock yourself in the car? If you push the unlock button, the doors should be unlocked. Does the car know there is a false entry and disable the unlock button?

But if they open the door the alarm will go off?

I have a work collegue who just had his 2002 Camry stolen. He claims the Camry has the same security coded key but that they were still able to hotwire the car. I told him that our keys were special but he seems to think the Camry security key work the same was as the C class.

I had thought that the only way to take the car was to either get a blank MB key or put the car on a flat bed. Is this true?

Thanks,

Nathan

Once, I left my windows open, and locked the car with my key from outside. Then I reached inside and pushed the unlock button and it did nothing. I'll have to try it again, maybe i didn't push hard enough.

2003 MB C230 coupe
i just went outside and did some experimenting. yes, i'm bored at work.

if you lock your car with your key and you press the unlock button on the center console (either from inside the car or through an open window ), nothing happens. but, if you lock the car with the key again, and open the door by pulling the door handle (all MB cars can be opened this way if they're locked ) either from inside the car or through an open windows, the alarms goes off until you unlock the car with the key (or until you put the key in the ignition probably, i didn't try this though, but i'd be willing to bet).

the alarm takes a few seconds to arm once the car has been locked. if you lock your car with the button on the center console, all bets are off cause the alarm isn't armed anyway.

so basically, someone can smash your windows and take whatever they want from inside the car. they just can't drive off or open the doors without the alarm sounding.

If you're worried about not having a motion sensor, etc. It might be possible to get some of the aforementioned Euro alarm features added into the current alarm system (my guess is that they're compatible).

If you lock yourself in the car using your remote control and open the door the alarm will go off. If you lock yourself using the lock button on the center console and open the door the alarm does nothing.

The car alarm went off while I was jacking the car up to change my front wheel. I suppose that protects the car from being towed off or having the wheels stolen.

have you guys seen BMW's double-locking system?

if the car is locked from the outside, there is NO way to open the doors short of ripping the doors out of its hinges.

They will probably have no idea what you are talking about, but good luck.

With the Euro alarm if you stick your hand in an open window or moonroof, it will go off. But its pretty hard to set off if you bump the car...some people like the alarm to be sensitive such that if the car is touched it will be set-off...the MB alarm will not do this. There are one or two aftermarket alarms that are compatible with the MB system...there is one called a Hornet (can't remember the model number)...I think its made by the company htat makes the viper alarms.

2002 Camry has a transponder in the key, even if you were to make a key by code you need to match it up with the automobiles transponder. It is not going anywhere without the key unless it is towed! It takes a computer that is special programed with some time to make the transponder work the automobile.
Most likely it was reposed.
My 2 cents.

Their is a way to trick the automobile to open its doors for a brief time. This is for BMW's of the 1990s that is electronic not mechanical in operation.

I have a Defa alarm in my c-coupe. It has glass breakage sensor, microwave sensor and a battery backed up siren.

what about the big, green, "help! i've been kidnapped" button? i mean, if they can break the rear windshield, they could remove the sight shield and push the button. question is, will that set off the alarm?
