New C280 owner here asking for advice
We are about to purchase 2006 C280 4matic with 99k(mostly highway) miles on the clock.
I do most of the maintenance and repairs on our cars so I wanted to get your input since this is going to be our first MB.
I am planing on doing following:
ATF fluid flush - Should I use MB ATF fluid (probably $$) or Redline D4 ATF
Center and rear diff fluid change - what does MB specs for these?
Brake fluid flush
Fuel filter
Air Filter
Cabin Filter
Spark plugs
Oil and Filter
Am I missing anything else?
Thanks!

yes, when are you going to perform mine??
brake fluid - any DOT4 fluid will work
Air filter - OEM has best fit
Cabin Filter - look for a carbon filter. 2006 models didn't come with one
spark plugs - Replace with OEM Bosch or NGK
Oil - use ONLY MB OEM fleece filter (Mann) and Mobil1 0w-40

what about using redline D4 ATF fluid for tranny..and what are the specs for center and rear diff fluids?
FYI you can save some $$ by hunting down the OE maufacturer of MB parts. For example, MANN makes the oem air and oil filters. Spark plugs are made by Bosch or NGK. All of these are cheaper online in my experience.

You should also change the serpentine belt.
I only use MB fluids for ATF and differentials. While Red Line is apparently very good stuff (and I have used it on other cars), I have had several independent MB specialists say to use only the MB fluids for transmissions and rear ends. They were quite adamant about it, but I am not sure what their reasoning is.
I think that the brake fluid spec is actually DOT 4+; I have used ATE Racing Blue (which is just DOT4) with good results, including on the track. The MB brake fluid is probably the most over priced item I have yet encountered ($40+ at the local dealer vs. $14 locally for the ATE, which is a pretty premium product itself).
The activated carbon and regular paper air filters are interchangable, but the carbon filter is much more expensive than the paper and I can't tell any difference in odor elimination (its only purpose). I have the carbon filters in both my C's now, but will be switching back to regular paper when they are done.
I have used a number of online parts co's but now rely almost exclusively on getmercedesparts.com (MB of Annapolis). They are quick, their prices are good and -- the main thing for me -- they haven't screwed up an order yet.
