Stepper motor replacement

I posed this question in the sticky thread at the top, but since that thread has had zero views since posting it 2 days ago, I'll ask it here: does anyone have experience replacing stepper motors M2/8 and M2/9 (left and right defrost flap)?

I tried, and pursued how to on the internet, but failed to replace my right defrost flap motor. I pulled the motor plug to stop the noise. That was 1 1/2 yr. ago and I've only used defrost once, and it worked fine. My research revealed you need to remove the top of the dash as well as the center and bottoms. If you find otherwise, please share.
