Well it depends on your finances which of course we don't know. also it depends on what you want. Personally i would not buy a bmw older than 06 or so because my family has had some bad experiences with them. another thing is what do you want? do you want a 135 or 335i or a m3. personally i would not get a 128 or 328i because they are not really better than your c320. but if power is not everything than the 28 would be fine. If i was buying a new 4 door car right now i would get a c55 because i love the w203 body style. gl remember that the mbfourms will be somewhat biased lol.

MB’s
If you can afford the M5 then trade in. But if you cant do not think for a moment that the M5 will be like lower end models. Test drive lots of cars before signing papers. Good luck.

Out Of Control!!
You would really need to put some real info in your question if you're going to expect anything other than sweeping generalizations.

I love M-B's(especially when it comes to power) but when it came time to get the wife a car I bought a 2009 BMW 328i for her. You can't beat the 4year/50k mile free maintenance that BMW offers...........which means I don't have to hear her whining about ME fixing whatever's wrong with her car(just take it to the dealer).

Owning an 07 M5 and the C230, I can tell you they are 2 very different cars. I like the M5 but only for a weekend and track car, the M5 has a stiff suspension and a awful trany (i have the smg) Its not comfortable as a daily driver because of the jerky way the trans shifts and going 1 mph over a speed bump and having people race you at every light gets old.
They both are direct competitors, I must say I love the free maint but I also dont mind shelling out the 200 bux for maint yearly on the MB its not that bad. I will say the BMW has had more issues then the MB, but ive only had it for a month, but the last owner only had tsb's done so its been a trouble free car for its lifetime.
MB or BMW is totaly a personal choice, I dont like 3 series, most of them here are piloted by dicks who cut me off and try to race, and there are as many of them as camrys, the C class was a bit rarer and doesn't have the boy racer/douche title tagged to it, I see lots of execs and women in them, which helped my choice.
Either ones a nice car, mercs more comfort bmw more sport, both are about equal in their competing models.

I drive my C230 quite a bit, so maybe that misconstrues my numbers, but $200 per year isn't gonna cut it for most of these W203s maintenance wise.
My 1 year maintenance total was over $1,100 for my 2005 C230 from July 17, 2008 till July 17, 2009 (25,000 to 56,000 miles). And let me be clear: Included in that total is not one single "repair" - it was all 100% normal maintenance. None of this was at the dealer, either.
New pads @ 27,000 (Comp'd by dealer) $0
Service A @ 29,000 $80
New tires @ 40,000 $500
Service B @ 42,000 $120
New rotors, pads, fluid flush @ 53,000 $350
Service A @ 55,000 $80
This year doesn't appear that it will be any cheaper. It's @ 66,000 right now. It'll need new tires again by 75,000. It'll also need a transmission flush by that time. Service B is due again in 2000 miles. The battery is getting old, too, and shows 12.3v after overnight instead of the 12.7v of a new one. For $200/yr I can cover 1 service A and 1 service B at the indy mechanic. But that just won't realistically do it. It should be noted that the brake job @ 53,000 was due to the original rotors being shot, pads still had life left.
Most of you guys won't drive as much as I do, and if you do probably not on the amount of tire-wearing back roads that I do - so no one should freak out. But maybe this will give you some insight into what maintenance costs can really be on these cars. My 2005 is solidly reliable and has had no outside-of-warranty issues whatsoever.
