Holy overcustomization, Batman! I wonder why MB chose that position anyway; as usual, it seems they did the option that made for actually enjoying to drive your car as difficult as possible.

we have it on our SL. The only time it lets you turn off the car is when you're in park. You can press the button as much as you want otherwise. There's a safety cutoff if you hold it for three seconds or something. It's not like MB would make it possible to accidentally turn off your car all the time.
this is a 2003 C32 station with full MOST audio, C55 instrument cluster, newstyle steering wheel, keyless-go, backup camera, designo exterior, interior and wood...and distronic & active TPMS to be finished
don't bother...when doing the MOST upgrade properly, one has to swap all audio related components, the instrument cluster and therefor the ignition switch and therefor the SRS control unit and therefor a couple crash sensors...the upper switch row change requires a swap of the ESP module (and that is not possible for 203s that have been manufactured before 08/2001)
Ok guys, nothing is impossible, even something major as my conversion which i was told is not possible consulting lots of MB people and techs but here it is not 100% finished but almost there.
I converted an 2002 C230 Kompressor Coupe to an 2009 CLC , still have some interface modules to retrofit but works in progress.
I recently finished retrofitting keyless-go into a C-class coupe after it's manual transmission has been swapped for an automatic transmission and distronic was added.
This car has the most impressive optionlist and is still not entirely finished but distronic, keyless-go and active tire pressure monitor system is up and running.

Considering the car is basically 15 years old, the mods will easily exceed the cost of the car several times over. You're honestly better off picking up an optioned out W209 CLK.

Anyone know for certain if MB will allow Distronic with a manual transmission?
My info shows the ME is looking for (possibly) communication from the transmission control unit over the BUS. Since I don’t have one...I believe that is what is causing my Distronic to fault out.
Everything else is set.

What year and model of C Class did the system come from?
Here's a link to a web site with an assortment of Mercedes brochures: MB Brochures I recommend that you find the brochure for the donor car and see whether distronic was offered only with an automatic transmission. I can understand why that might be the case because a significant change in vehicle speed will require a shift. Upshifts and downshifts would have been difficult to automate with a manual transmission during the era in which Mercedes produced the W203s.
