Hello and good bye

Hey everyone, I've monitored this forum ever since I had my car since June of 08. 2 weeks ago I traded it in for a 10 is250 :nix: Please dont bash me. I am grateful for all the knowledge I gained from this forum and for the record I loved my C230, I just wanted more up to date tech and I am no fan of the W204 so I decided to go Lexus because it wasnt too pricey when optioned with what I wanted. I have the 6disc changer, (without the wires) that was in my O7 C230 and I also Have the Oem set of halogen headlight housings for sale if anyone is interested, I dont have much use for them anymore so pm me and make an offer. Until my next Merc, take care! I'll still be watching just not as often.

Good Luck,

Can you PM me a price for the CD changer shipped to 91501? Or I can pick it up. Please let me know.

You can't go wrong with Lexus, IMO. I can't fault you for upgrading if you wanted more tech features. The Lexus will never quite have the W203's timeless beauty, though.

i dont like lexus looks, but its a nice car to own.

Make sure your gas pedal doesnt get stuck on the floor mat like some Lexus vehicles have in the past. But GL with the Lexus and congrats on the new car.

November 25th : "BREAKING: Toyota to recall 3.8M vehicles to reshape and replace pedals"

Not to go :topic: too much, but I'm suspicious about the whole pedal thing. Unintentional acceleration has been reported in Toyota/Lexus cars for a decade. I'm a big Toyota/Lexus fan (having had experience with a 1998 Camry that never had an issue in 200,000 miles) but it is.. scary.

OP: It's important you understand how to shut down the engine in a car with keyless ignition. IIRC, in Lexus cars, you press and hold the engine start/stop button for 3 seconds and it will kill the engine. Just a little FYI in case the HIGHLY UNLIKELY were to ever happen.

That is a good point, plus neutral is always an option.

Some of the recordings and such that I have heard seemed a bit odd to me. In a conversation with a police officer that lasted a few minutes, no one once mentioned neutral, park, or turning off the car. That is really good advice, Matt. I was actually curious about the keyless ignition in that regard. Thanks!

MB has had its own share of safety recalls, wheels that came off, steerings that fell apart etc.

To the OP good luck with your new Lexus! The IS gives MB and Bimmer a good run for their money.

The accident in CA involving the ES350 you mentioned, he didn't know how to shut off the car because of keyless ignition. We'll never know why neutral wasn't selected, but the cars have electronic controlled transmissions.

It's unfortunate the brakes couldn't overpower the engine. In our C230s, I'm quite sure our massive brakes could better fight with our mediocre engine power in that situation. Not that it would be an issue, I'd just turn the car off.

kslater00 12-05-2009 05:24 PM

Yeah i already checked to make sure the car will go in neutral even when i am flooring the gas. I dont think i will try to hold the button and shut the car down though until it is actually a real emergency. My driver side mat came zip tied around the seat base with a customer removal only warning tag. It is still on there hehe.

Well, back on topic, congratulations on the car. I hope you thoroughly enjoy it.

That's gotta be some long 3 seconds!!!
I can't believe it doesn't immediately turn off when pressed, like turning the key off.

Doesn't anybody ever wonder why these type of posts appear on a forum; owned this but left for the competition and just wanted a last hoorah.

bdgdl08 12-05-2009 09:02 PM

He was at least thanking people here. Most posts of this type just say something along the lines of, "I hated my car. Performance breaks bla bla bla, unreliable bla bla bla..."

@acr, it's for safety. If you press the ignition button on an S or SL it will turn the cluster red and say that the car is in motion. The 3 seconds is some sort of override. If it was just click and off, I would have accidentally turned off the SL we have many times (as the ignition button is on the top of the shifter).
