i went to turn on the heat in my car and everytime i tried to turn on the heat and all it does is blow cold air. but when i put it on defrost blows out hot air out of the defrost vents... any ideas?

Run the HVAC stepper motor resynchronization to see if they're all working......hold down the Recirc and Front windshield buttons for about 10 seconds or until they both start flashing back and forth. You'll here the flaps opening and closing and the air will be directed out of different vents during the resynch cycle. After a couple of minutes the lights should go out and the procedure stops if everything is ok. If it just keeps going and going then there's a problem with one or more of the motors or linkages and that could be your problem.

where is the Recirc button?

You need an owners manual. On my car the Recirc button is the outline of a car with an arrow inside of it that curves back at both ends.
