Roter Replacement ...

I am posting for my friend's car - 2001 C-class C240, the mileage of which is currently over 60K.

Basically, he is wondering if he should replace roters while replacing braking pads.

In addition, since he is planning to bring his car to his country, he would like to replace and fix all as far as they are necessary or recommended.

He is thinking about:

(1) replacing brake pads;AND
(2) Flushing brake fluid (I guess it is recommended every 2 years but he has never done it);

Would you guys kindly share your expertise with him and me? Thank you.

You need to check the runout (i.e. wear) on the rotors. The dealers like to replace the rotors with the pads, but it's not always necessary. At 60K (kilometers?) they honestly may or may not need replacing.

If he's never flushed the brake fluid I would have it done since it's been 8 years. The **** ones (like me) flush every 2 years, but it's probably not absolutely necessary.

THE C350
i would replace the rotors if he is going to a country that is harder to get parts. or at least throw a pair in the trunk lol. usually the rotors last through 2 sets of pads but you really should inspect them and measure them and see if they are within tolerance. brake fluid is a must 8+ year old car with original fluid not good. oh if the country is hard to get parts stock up on fleece filters because they are not always easy to find from what i hear or are way more expensive. another thing that might be good to do is the trans fluid it is recommended for like 85k or something in that car but if a good Mercedes mechanic with the proper tools is not around it can be a pain to do. sorry for being all over the place i have not slept in 28 hours now so i am not totally with it. hope this helps i will check back whenever i wake up and see if you need anything else.

^^ - too early and no coffee yet... I mis-read and thought he was bringing the car into the US, not the other way around. If taking it out, yeah I'd probably do as much maintenance as would leave me feeling 'warm & fuzzy'.

From what I've read on here, he might have an easier time getting the 'real' fleece filters out of the states (can't we only get the paper ones here)? If there's a source for the true fleece filters here now, please share?

C230 = screwed.

I did Service B on my C230 the other day and kept a few ounces of the oil. It had been in the car for 13,000 miles with the paper filter. I've got a free oil analysis kit on the way. Can't wait to see it. I was told by the dealer that this is acceptable, and I'm sticking to it. If my engine dies at 250,000 miles instead of 400,000, well, I can live with that.

So grateful

60K MILES ... (Almost 100K KMs)

He is taking her out of the US.

I am gonna say he'd better replace the rotors. Actually, he replaced front and rear brake pads at Meineke. The front ones are MB OEM but the rear ones are ceramic type pads (I do not know what brand they are).

Plus, he'd better flush the brake fluids, which has never been flushed since purchase (He is the second owner but he said the first owner was not a good car maintenance guy).

By the way, what is the fleece filter? Please, let me advised and informed. THank you again.

There are 2 types of oil filters for the C240 engine. The fleece media filter (extended service) is recommended. This filter will be good for the rcommended oil service intervals. Cost of the filter is about $12-15. The paper media filter is cheaper ($6-7), but not really recommended.
