I'm desperate, please help!!!

I got a 02 c230 coupe, broke my car key like 2 months ago . The thing is i own the car, but my friend name is on the lien from capital one. To make matter worst, i live in florida and my friend is in texas. I called mb at pompano beach, fort lauderdale told them i need a spare key, cost around $210, they said that i have to come in with proof of ownership and id. So there is no way i could do that. I asked my friend in texas to get a spare key from mb in fort worth, policy over there is that the car have to be at the dealer or tow there to get the key program. $187 for key + 100 some for the key to program at the dealer ...what should i do guys???? please help!!!

You should have had your name put on the title and registration listed as secondary. You need to either re-finance the car in your name or drive the car to texas. There isnt much else you cant do, mercedes service wont give any one but the registered owner of the car, since technically its not your car, then you wont get a key.

Its awefull stupid of your buddy to put out his credit for you, and this is one of the reasons people dont sign for some ones financial responsibility.

So get a loan, or drive the car to texas, or fly your buddy here. Those are your choices.

Glyn M Ruck Dec 14, 2009 04:49 PM

BTW - The dealer can't code the key. It comes coded for your car from the Benz Security Center (I think in LA) - should cost between $170 & $250. One of the guys on the 204 forum just got one for $200 all in.

Some pretty harsh statements there.

Send your buddy the funds. Have your buddy go to the local Benz dealership and provide proof of ownership and I'd, When it gets back to the dealer already programmed, have him send it to you. You can then send me a check for the difference in money I saved you. Lol

Good luck!

tell your friend in Texas to find another dealer. i ordered a key from mercedes a few weeks ago and they never once saw the car.

Glyn M Ruck Dec 14, 2009 06:22 PM

Yeah! - they should just need ID - Proof of ownership & the VIN number

I'm appreciated that you are trying to help me, but if you read carefully. The key is broken, which is only came with one when i bought the car. About the financial, i really don't need you to get involve in because is my business. I do not need a loan, only $2k left on the principle balance.

I deposited $220 for my buddy already, he stop by the parts department but they refused to order it, said that car need to be at the dealer in order for them to program it :bs:. I did called like 4 mercedes benz dealer in texas to verified, told me the same sh**. They will not sell it unless the car is at the dealer.

Yes, that is what i been told by mercedes benz in florida. I guess in texas, they are trying to ripoff on the program bs.

MBUSA has implemented strict protocols of late regarding theft-relevant parts.
Wouldn’t want an ex to be driving it away on a whim.

Quite pleased to have sourced a shiny spare key when they were ~$75.

Now,... exactly how did you break your car key??? More specifically,... how is it broken??? :nix:

If it's just the plastic housing case,... then buy a simular key off ebay and switch the internal circuits.

If the internal circuits are busted,.... but the main chip that holds the VIN# is still good (see link below for which one is main chip),.... then buy a simular key or newer chrome key off ebay and put your old main chip (good one) into the key your got off ebay. How's your soldering skills? :D

At first, my key is worn out n cracked but still work so i never bother to replace the housing. long story short, I accidently drop it in a bucket of water. This is the solution that i tried from the search on this forum, bought a new key off of ebay, soldered that main chip into the new board still does not work, probably the main chip is gone. My soldering skills is still solid, used to be a level 3 tech for cell phones.

Sorry if you had already mentioned but do you have a spare? If you have a spare try using the chip on that.

Try some social engineering. That always works. When I go see my client it's 2 dollars for 15 minutes the stupid place doesn't have maximum rate (i'm there sometimes for 4 hours) :smash:

I always slip him a Hamilton (not even a Jackson) and once I get to the gate I say open sesami and the gate opens.

What i'm trying to say is make up a story or slip a 20 or 50 or 100 and you'll get it taken care of. Is the insurance under your name? Take that as proof.

Or have you friend add you on the car's title and have the bank fax as proof.

Good Luck

So i want get my key fix to use my coupe commute to work, then drop the hatch in the shop.

Frankw, i currently have 3 cars for sell; 95 del sol si w/ jdm gsr swap, 98 civic w/ usdm gsr swap, 98 civic sohc vtec. One of it is on ebay right now,

yes, insurance is under my name. I will give that a try to see what happen. When i did the title transfer, i only put my friend name on it and on the loan too. Did not put my name in the secondary, due to the fact i had a car loan at that time. my brother in law is a mb master tech that used to work at mb of fort lauderdale, fl. i don't know what he be doing now so am s.o.l
thanks

Perfect go in there act panicked. Say please you guys have to help me. Tell them what happened. Say it's an emergency. I need to drive to texas for family renunion for christmas. Say please I really need your help. Here is proof of insurance. Say my Christmas will be runied and act sad. Say your brother from the marines was able to come only for Christmas and you haven't seen him in years and it will be the only time I will see him. YOU DONT HAVE FAMILY HERE AND YOUR HAVE NO ONE HERE

Beg and don't yell at them.

Say please you can call my insurance and veryify.

If they say that's against our policy. Say "Please no one will know about this, please I have to get in time for Christmas and keep insisting that this is between you and him". If you see no reaction try to slip a 20 dollar bill.

At this whole process DO NOT SMILE OR AGREE KEEP STATING YOUR COMMENT..KEEP PUSHING THEM AND KEEP MENTIONING YOUR CHRISTMAS WILL BE RUINED AND KEEP MENTIONING YOUR BROTHER WHO IS IN THE MARINES AND ONLY HERE FOR CHRISTMAS AND YOU HAVE NOT SEEN HIM IN YEARS AND YOU WILL NOT AND THIS IS THE ONLY TIME YOU WILL SEE HIM.

Take my advice and soon you will have a set of keys :)

EDIT:
You can also mention you have saved up (400 dollars - food and gas and present money and now present money goes for key) for this and now because of this you hardly have any money. Maybe they will give you a deal on key and this gives them no room to say take a train or take a plane.

Or you could just offer to sleep with him.

I'm not sure this getting-sympathy thing will work. Dealers in my area couldn't give a *****.

I'm with FrankW on this one. Who in their right mind would put someone else, out of state, on the title and not add themselves.

John, I'm all for Benz maintaining the integrity of their security system.

I get mad when dealers talk crap & want to make a fortune out of you for the BS story of coding the key. They can't do it in the interests of maintaining such security.

Maybe there is a stolen Coupe amongst the private car lot of Honda's :rolf:

W203E35 Dec 15, 2009 07:21 AM

Speaking of stolen. My friends cousin bought a BMW 740 il (1994) year from a used car lot. He paid 3k cash. They said we'll mail you pink slip. He went back and fourth (one day they said it takes some time because of clunkers program DMV is backed up...then the other time they acted like they went to DMV to get pink slip and then came back and said DMV will mail it) then after another month of waiting he went and the lot was empty. He went to DMV and the car is stolen.

Can you believe that crap? The most amazing stories I hear.
