Oil change anyone??
Has anybody here attempted to do their own oil change in the 203 sedan. I searched the forums and found guys w/ the W210 and the CL203 doing it.
I've passed my 50k mile warranty and I'm currently on my extended warranty now, but it doesn't cover service A and B.
I'd like to know what kind of tools I would need and part #'s.
thanks guys,
Jay

MBWorld Fanatic!
MB designed things so the oil change is done from under the hood only, and not under the car. A "topsider" type oil suction device is needed to extract the oil from a tube on top of the engine unless you are willing to remove an underside panel (four 8 mm bolts) to access the sump drain plug. You also need the filter and associated o-ring seals for the parts.

2004 SLK Special Edition
Although I have the coupe and it has a different engine, I have changed my oil twice already and it wasn't that bad. Removing the panels is easy, and the drain plug is just like any other. The difficult part is fitting underneath the car, so I highly reccomend using some stable jacks. I'm pretty small so I could squeeze under but I wasn't able to turn my head. The other difficulty I had was getting the oil filter cap off. I'm not sure where it is exactly on your car but probably under some of the engine cover panels. If you haven't ever seen it, its like a canister filter on a swimming pool. I used an oil filter removal tool that has 3 grippers that close down on the lid as you twist harder. You can find one at any auto parts store. It works pretty good, but you need to wrap some duct tape, or black electricians tape around the grippers otherwise it will scrape and put gouge and scratch marks in the plastic cap. The OEM filter costs me about $9 and just make sure you use Mobil 1. The filter snaps into the cap and comes with a new o-ring to put on the cap. Good luck.

It's probably similar to changing the oil on an SLK:
